So I picked up my first bottle of Effexor from the pharmacy (the dr. had given me a TON of samples). One month is $50 -- and that's with my insurance. I about fainted when the girl gave me my total. When I took Zoloft, two months worth was about $15, so I'm considering calling the dr and switching back. I haven't been as tired on the Effexor as I was on Zoloft, but I hate the withdrawal, which I start having within 8 hours of forgetting a dose. I don't know what to do. There are pros and cons to each -- maybe I need to make one of those pro/con charts to decide. Any suggestions/thoughts/ideas?

Was the Zoloft as effective for you? Why did the doc give you something new?
Fortunately I had good prescription coverage at home and here in the UK, so cost hasn't been a factor.
However, if the higher priced one worked better and there were less "cons", I'd personally stick with it and try to find a way to manage the extra costs.
Good luck!

Please read the post that I just made here Mental Illness And Omega 3 Oils... This is much cheaper than the Effexor... I have been on everything out there, and OMEGA THREE OILS have been the only thing to help me in six years!

The big problem I had with Zoloft was that it made me very sleepy. In the two years that I was on it, that never improved. I was off meds for about 3 years and then had a major flare-up of my panic disorder a few months ago. We tired Lexapro, but it made me shake all over. So then we tried Effexor, which is great for the anxiety -- no sleepiness (or no more than without), no sexual side effects. . . And I could deal with the cost I guess, but if I forgot to take my Zoloft I didn't even notice. It took several days before I felt any withdrawal. With the Effexor, it's a matter of hours and I have a migraine complete with sound, light and smell sensitivity and nausea, and I feel "woozy." With my ADD, I do forget my meds from time to time, despite my best efforts. I go back at the first of next month, so I think I'll talk to the dr about all of this and see what his suggestions are. I mean, I already spent $50 on this month's meds, so I might as well use them.

My doctor said that the different anti-depressants out there don't all work the same. Each one affects different parts of the brain differently that is why you have different side effects with each.
I took Lexapro and it didn't work. You can go off of that drug cold turkey with no problems.
My doctor warned me when he recommended Effexor that it was different and was going to affect different parts of my brain differently from Lexapro. Well, Effexor is working great for me. He told me you have to slowly go off of Effexor with lower and lower doses. Otherwise, he said there are withdrawal side effects.
