I don't know if this ever happens to anyone else, but if I wake up and get up too quickly, it hits me a few seconds later - this very strange feeling. I feel almost flu-like, my face turns pale, my head, arms and hands start tingling, and my legs feel like jello and I get a hard headache. The only way to make it completely go away is to go back to sleep and sleep it off and get up more slowly next time. Laying down helps, but I never quite feel right the rest of the day.
Any ideas??? Or, does this happen to anyone else? Is this a blood pressure issue maybe?

I get that if I stand up too quickly as well. The old saying "all the blood rushing to your head" is how it was explained to me. Of course like anything ask your doc if it worries you...but blood rushing from getting up to quick is supposedly "normal".

hi
i get like this too, i have to wait in bed for awhile or else i get like you said. My dr said it is blood pressure. But you're best to check - just to make sure.

Once you get past 29 things like this seem to crop up. DH and Mom have had weird reactions from standing up too quick. I have heard of some other cysters having problems even without standing up. Get your doc to check your heart and BP just in case.
I'm on blood pressure meds that keep mine in the normal range. I still get this whenever I get out of bed, or stand up too fast. It's a head rush. Vertigo sometimes. I never get numbness or a really bad headache though. Don't know if my face pales, but it feels as though it should be.

Yeah, it sounds like your bp is dropping too low. It's called ortostatic hypotension or postural hypotension. Alot of meds can cause it, especially tricyclic antidepressants. My doc says to sit on the edge of the bed for a minute or two before you get up. It can also be caused by stress because it taxes the adrenal glands and nervous system and they can't respond as fast to the commands given by the nerves to raise your bp. Talk to your doc, he should be able to come up with a reason and a remedy.

Oh, I just saw you are on amitriptyline, it's also a tricyclic antidepressant. I am willing to bet that is what your doc will say is causing it. I had a horrible time with feeling faint when standing up, when I took it. You also have hypertension? Meds for that will cause it, too. So if you are on both no wonder you feel lousy. Good luck!
