I have been taking Fortamet (metformin) for about three weeks now and I've just got my first period since July. For 3 or 4 days before I started, I had some discharge like I get when I ovulate (the few times I actually do ovulate), but it was twinged with dark blood, kind of like "old" dry blood. Well, now that I've actually started my period, I've had more of it. There's some "new" blood that's bright red, like normal, but then there's that "old" looking stuff too. It's kind of tarry, gummy and dry. Anybody else ever had this happen?

yes, I have.... i just had my first period in over a year which was a bit of a shock.... my gyno said seeing old dried blood is very common if you have irregular flows. please check with your own doctor if you are really concerned. good luck!

OMG I started that med too and I got my first period on my own in almost 4 years! It was pretty much a regular period then stopped, but then started again 4 days later. It was brown and thick for like a week but first thing in the morning would be bright red. Then the next week it was more red. So I've been bleeding pretty much almost 3 weeks! Now today exactly 1 month after the first period, it's heavier and more like a "regular" period. I have no idea what is going on with me. I'm sick of bleeding, but am praying it was a messed up month and now things will get back on track.
