Default Strange things going on with my body...

I have been tested many times for an underactive thyroid and my TSH is ALWAYS normal. It has been about 2 years since it has been checked, however. I have a 4.5 month old and I rememeber my hair falling out when I had my dd, however, I don't remeber falling out for this long. I am thinking like a week or 2 maybe 3 at the most. My hair has been falling out for over 2 months now. I don't know that I can tell a true difference in the thickness of my hair, but I have thick hair. I can tell I have new growth around my forehead. Anyway, as I do research on what strange exotic disease I have and how much longer I have to live, I come across hypothyroidsim. I have many syptoms, however I can explain away most of them. I am always tired... I have a 4 months old and a 2 year old... And am a full time student... Why wouldn't I be tired. I don't lose weight well, however, I am not obese, plum, but not huge and I can't help but to eat those M&M's in my daughters halloween pale. If I am not activley trying to lose weight, I should be happy with my size. I have carpel tunnel, every time I type on the computer, feed my baby, put my make up on, etc... my hands go numb and it become a little painful. I have dry skin for the very first time in my life, which I have chalked up to hormonal changes after a baby. Anyway, with all that, what do yall think? Should I go to my dr and have them run test? What test should I ask for?

When was the last time you had your thyroid levels checked? If it's been a while, you could ask your doctor to run a thyroid panel (including thyroid antibodies). Always get a copy of your lab results because some doctors don't use the new TSH range to dx thyroid problems...which means you could have a slight thyroid problem (that will only get worse with time), but a lousy doctor who overlooks or refuses to treat you. The symptoms with hypo are so broad and general that it's hard to dx on symptoms alone, so if your levels are okay, it's probably something else--or a multitude of little things.

Best wishes.

I too am wondering about myself. DRs have played around with my health the last few years, I don't know what is going on with me. I sat down one day and wrote down symptoms I had, things that were just different to me in the last year or so. A lot of the symptoms fall under Hypothyroid. My new DR ran some tests and I should have the results next week. My body has just changed so much in the last 6 months - a year. If I was you I would seek out a DR, have some tests done. Either way it will ease your mind.

Have you talked about postpartum thyroiditis with a health care provider recently? While it may well be hypothyroid issues that are causing some of your problems, you're well within the normal time frame for post partum thyroiditis to begin (usually between 4 and 12 months after the baby is born.)

It sounds like its worth a conversation with your health care provider about your thyroid-whether its long term thyroid issues or postpartum inflammation.

Good luck.
