Angry Strangers Picking Hairs Off You!!!

Have any of you experienced this?

I have PCOS hair loss, mostly on the back part of my head and it is a very upsetting thing for me. I was waiting in a long line to attend a friend's graduation at our local University when a pushy lady behind me exclaimed loudly, "Oh, you've got hairs all over you! Let me pick them off!"

"Uh, no, it's OK, really" I said, embarrassed. She proceeded to do so anyway and I stood there, humiliated as several people watched her pick the stray hairs off my back. This was bad enough, but she kept saying, "Wow, you sure have a lot of hair that's fallen out here!"

I wanted to shout, "Of course I do, you cow! I'm losing my hair due to Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and you are making me feel worse!" But, since there were so many people about, I decided to keep my cool and even weakly thanked her when she was done! I hate myself for that.

Now I kind of wish I had said something, but she probably wouldn't have understood or cared.

Has this happened to you? Did it bother you? What would you do?

Klassical, I'm sorry! The thing is she thought she was being sweet and thoughtful, and she really was being insensitive to our condition. That has not happened to me, but I wanted to give you a (((HUG))).

Thanks for the hug!
Perhaps she thought she was doing me a favor, but I couldn't help feeling like a lil' baboon sitting there being groomed by another baboon! Hee, hee, that sort of got me chuckling inside and helped me maintain my cool. I took some comfort in the fact that she continued to be noisy and bossy with other people in line, too, so it wasn't just with me. I think she is the kind that needs to be the center of attention, even if it's negetive attention as I noticed some raised eyebrows from onlookers as she prattled on and on.

How annoying! Sorry she made you feel awkward.

She needs one of these

I wonder if she could come clean up my house, I have hair all over the place.

Hey, that lil' slapping smiley is cute!
Yes, I have hair all over the place, too. My hair is pure white and when my white cat, Snowy, was still alive I couldn't tell who was shedding more, him or me!

I often have to take my vacuum cleaner apart to unwind my long white hairs that get caught in the mechanism that twirls the brush in there. It's so sad to see so much hair falling out.

Some people can't stand stray hairs...like OCD or something

My former boss would pick off long hairs from women clients and staff, saying it bothered him to see it there...

Yes, I think you are right about it really bothering some folks. That's kind of funny about your boss. What was sad was that I checked carefully before I left for the graduation ceremony to see that there were no stray hairs on my back, etc. After all, I have white hair and I was wearing black that day. I guess some just had to fall out. If she was to do this, I just wish she had been more discreet about it, instead of pointing it out so loudly to the entire crowd.

I've never had that happen with hair LOSS...but I have with hair GROWTH. A friend of mine came up to me one time and said "Hey...did you go to the dentist or something? You look like your chin is all bruised up!" Gr. I felt like saying "No, no Marcia...that's just my BEARD!!!" Serves me right for forgetting the concealer!

I too am very familiar with taking apart the vacuum cleaner pulling out the hair and reassembling it, I think I could do it blindfolded. Actually one trick I have learned is I take a squeegee to the carpet before I vacuum, it gathers a lot of hair! It has reduced the number of times I need to take apart the vacuum.

Heart, one time one of my clients looked at me and said "you have dirt all over your face", it was then I realized I forgot to shave that day, but luckily I was redoing my clients garden so at least I had an excuse to look like I had dirt all over.

Aren't you glad you don't have dandruff. I'm a picker, but I keep my hands to myself around strangers.

My dad used to make me sweep the carpet in my bedroom before I vacuumed. One of the advantages of really short hair is that the shedding "looks" a lot less.
