I'm sorry if this is written about somewhere else on this forum (it must be but I couldn't find it) but this morning as I was reading the book "Simple Steps" (authors Lela, McClintock and Zingarella) they cited a study in The New England Journal of Medicine that said the following:
"...soaking daily in a warm bath reduces blood sugar levels by 13%, slashes insulin needs by almost 20%, and can help women with diabetes lose 4 pounds of body fat in just three weeks."

I wonder if sitting in a sauna or steam room has any effect. When I was losing my 90 pounds, and putting my pcos into remission, I sat in the steam room of my gym for 15 minutes every day...

I stay cold a lot, but I cannot take steam. Even hot showers will make me feel very weak. I don't know if maybe I have lower lung capacity or what. I am trying the hot bathes since with our high ceilings the steam does not build up and bother me. Do you ever get lightheaded from the steam room?
i really can't stand steam. it makes me feel nauseated, which is sad as i otherwise enjoy hot showers. sometimes, i can't even stand to go into the bathroom after someone else has taken a shower. i just hate steam! also, hot showers make my skin blotchy.

Yes, I used to get light headed, and had a very hard time breating. Unless you have some medical problems, and should avoid it completely, the key is to only stay in for a very short time, and then build up. Or try the sauna...it's dry heat.
I originally started steaming to try and 'knock out' my hot flashes and sweating caused by those dumb BCP's.
Now, I LOVE being in a hot steam room. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it.
