Do any of you ladies know much about them? I have had them the last 2 pregnancies. I stayed down on really strict bedrest with my DD for weeks 5-12 and it healed. This last time, I stayed down on bedrest and then the bleeding stopped, so I figured it was healed. WRONG!!
I am trying to do some research to figure this all out. I have read/heard that it may be a clotting problem and/or a folic acid absorption problem.
Since we have lost 4 out of 5 children, I am trying to figure out if we can "fix" this bleeding problem and try again.
Does anyone have any information for me?
Thanks so much!!!

I've only been pg once, but I too had a subchorionic haematoma or hemorrhage. My ob/gyn told me nothing we did would make any difference to the outcome of the pregnancy, so did not prescribe bed rest. Naturally I've always wondered what might have happened if I had rested. But that's another post!
My new ob/gyn prescribed baby aspirin to help prevent clotting and to improve the blood supply to the baby next time round. But as you'll see from my siggy we're having a little trouble getting there, so I can't tell you if it works.
From what I can gather from my research on the net, a subchorionic haematoma or hemorrhage does not always result in m/c. Sometimes the blood is re-absorbed by the body and everything is fine. There seem to be mixed views as to whether bed rest assists. There are no other suggestions in terms of prevention or cure.
I think its just one of those things. But if I were you, I would definitely talk to my doctor about aspirin. Have you been tested for clotting problems?
Good luck, I hope this helps.

Heidi, I am sooo sorry for your losses. I just wish no one ever had to experience this!
I have no information on sub-chorionic hemmorhages, but had a few questions...hopefully you or Choc or someone else will know. Are these found by u/s easily? I had spotting for about two weesk before they found out the baby had died. I had an ultrasound when I first began spotting and saw the HB and the baby was moving all around. I had a different doc than my regular doc that day...I mean, I trust him, but I just had never had a pregnancy before and this was my first prenatal checkup anyway, plus the spotting, so I'm not sure if he even checked everything totally out. Oh, and the ultrasound machine isn't the best in the office. I put myself on aspirin now just as a precaution. So did you both find out by u/s?

I started spotting in my 7th week, was sent off for an u/s immediately and the hemmorhage was clearly visible (as was the heartbeat and sac). I guess it would depend how large it is, but I understand that they are usually visible on u/s. For me, it was a big black patch on the u/s pic - easily the same size as the sac.
HTH!

Choc - I did strict bedrest for 7 weeks with my DD and I do believe that it saved her life. I think the profession needs to do a updated study on bedrest. I don't believe it when they say it doesn't work. I haven't been tested for clotting problems yet. But I hope to have it done very soon!
I honestly believe that if I had stayed down on really strict bedrest like my previous pregnancy that we would not have lost our baby! I passed tons of huge clots and I think that the weight of the clots simply pulled him down.

Heidi, that is so interesting, thank you. I've already said to DH if it happens again I'm putting myself on bed rest. I just don't want to say "what if" for the rest of my life, kwim?

Thanks, guys, for the info. It's all so interesting and I really wish we had answers to all the questions we have (what if I would have done this, what causes this, why me). I had one u/s at the doc, like I said, and one at a women's clinic (it's an ER for women's issues) so I'm sure they would have spotted something at either of those and said something.
