Talking Success with Saw Palmetto (Breast Growth etc.)

Hello girls,
Here's my success story!
After I came off the BCP (bad experience) my PCOS symptoms (especially acne and irregular periods) became far worse. In addition to this my weight was easier to keep down, I could eat more (probably due to the testosterone) and my breasts shrunk to a small A cup.
After only 1 week on Saw Palmetto I noticed my breasts were much fuller, and now, after 4 weeks they are a B cup! It's amazing really! I didn't expect it to work so well. I used to go braless all the time and now I find it uncomfortable to walk around without one! In addition I haven't had one new pimple since beginning SP... they are all scars. The hair on my chin is also most certainly improved.
Just so you know my homonal profile (to determine if perhaps Saw Palmetto will work for you).... low estrogen, high testosterone, anovulatory (low progesterone), likely high LH... all my other blood tests (prolactin etc.) came back normal.
HTH some of you ladies
BTW I am a huge avocate of using natural remedies to deal with PCOS... I urge you all to check out the Alt. Remedies. Chow, Ophelia

Congratulations! Keep us updated on any future developments!I've been thinking about saw palmetto as I've been worried that I may be getting more hirsute (still not sure if I'm just being paranoid or it's really happening!)
Also interesting to see that you're on vitex, despite possible high LH - obviously it works well for you. BTW, I never had a major problem with acne, but I haven't had a single new pimple since starting flax seed oil capsules.

Hey Sarah,
Thanx for your reply. I was waiting to post about SP affect on my hirtuism until I was postive it was working, and after a week in my present condition I am positive it is. I used to have around 10 black, thick hairs on my chin at any given time... now they are soft and colourless and grow much more slowly. I'm debating over whether or not saw palmetto worked so well for me because I do have low estrogen (I'm going to wait for school to be over to research that.) And here are my thoughts on Vitex (copied from another of my posts):
I did have a bit of a problem deciding to start Vitex as I have run across many articles stating that Vitex raises LH, but most herbalists view Vitex as a hormone balancer. The argument made by many women on these posts is that the studies which say vitex raises LH levels were done on women without PCOS...whose LH levels could stand to be raised a bit. If a study were done specifically on women with significantly raised LH levels (PCOSers) it certainly might show that it lowers them. I have yet to come across a study on the effects of vitex on women with significantly elevated LH. Believeing that Vitex is a normalizer I would assume it would decrease such elevated levels.
Many women choose to stay away from vitex because of the current studies and certainly many websites advise against it's use for PCOS. I have seen one post in which a PCOSers already high LH levels were elevated even higher after using Vitex, but the majority of women have had positive results as far as I can tell. Until a study specific to PCOSers comes out I suppose we will never know until we try.

Cheers, Ophelia

Hey Six,
I take 160mg twice a day... one with each of my last two meals. (I read a post by Kat Carney saying that she had read somewhere that we produce most of our testosterone at night.) I take this dosage everyday. The active ingredients in SP for reducing active testosterone are the fatty acids... so it is important to get ones which are standardized to 85-95% free fatty acids.
Before I went on the pill my breasts were a B, while on the pill they grew a little... to a full B... where I am right now!
HTH, Ophelia

Thanks for the tips Ophelia - I'm going to try the Saw Palmetto - I am currently on the pill and I wonder if it will make any difference whether I'm on it or not. I hope to go off the bcps and treat naturally as soon as dh gets snipped.

Thanks.

Kristin
