I was just wondering if anyone had success with taking soy and metformin in getting a BFP?

I'm new to this- is it increasing soy through diet or is it using supplements?

I did. I got pg on my second cycle of soy in June (m/c) and I have been on 1000mg of Met for over a year. Start out at low doses!! 80mg should be sufficient, then increase to 120mg if it doesn't work. I took too much and it delayed O to really, really late in my cycle.

Plenty of women on this site have had soy babies or BFPs. Melvin'sWifey recently gave birth to a soy baby. I'd say give it a go if you think it's right for you.

Michelle- when you took it did you take it like one would take Clomid or was it a daily dose?

Soy isoflavones are taken like Clomid. From what I understand, taking it every day would prevent ovulation. I took it CD 3-7, but it can be done like Clomid (1-5, 3-7, 5-9)

What was cool is that it didn't dry up my CM like Clomid did.

I'm trying to decide whether or not to go the clomid or soy route. I go back to my doctor in a couple of weeks to start rolling. I am on Metformin 500mg 2x a day, so I want to make sure that I look at all of my options. Thanks so much for the info, and I look forward to any more that I get. Baby Dust to everyone

Michelle - So sorry to hear about your m/c

And yes OP, I have a soy baby! A Met/Soy baby!

I was on 1500mg Met for a year in combo with clomid, injects, and soy at various different cycles. Then I upped my Met to 2000mg Met a day and on that second cycle of doing that I got my BFP, along with 160mg Soy cd1-5. I agree with Michelle, it doesn't dry you up like Clomid. I did get a couple of headaches but nothing major and certainly worth it.

I did some other soy cycles before, they were 120mg cd5-9 and I did ovulate but it was the bigger dose that I got my BFP with. I used the Soy Isoflavones (spring valley brand) from wal mart.

Good luck!

I don't know if it's a real success yet but I'm excited and want to share-I *think* I have just ovulated on CD 23 with 120mg soy isoflavones on days 3-7. I didn't ovulate at all before metformin and since I started it, all my other cycles O'd on CD 35. This would be a huge improvement! Need my temps to stay up a few more days to know for sure though.

No harm in trying Soy...only side effects I had were a few hot flashes and maybe the teeniest bit of insomnia.

Good luck ladies!

That is about the cutest soy baby I've seen :-) Trying for one of my own.

I haven't had any side effects from the soy isoflavones. I take them CD 5-9. Adding soy to your diet daily can actually cause your O to be delayed or irregular though so stick with the isoflavones.

I am on cd 19 after taking soy...so far no o...or at least no positive opk...but my ovaries are pulling and tugging. For those of you that were successful, was your ovulation on time?

I did! I'm on 2500mg/ of met a day, and I took 80 mg of soy cd5-9 on the cycle I got this BFP. I think it just helped get a good size follicle going for me. I did have ovarian drilling back in June though.

Ruby, the first month I did soy, I took 120 mg cd3-7 and ovulated on cd9...way early. The second cycle (bfp cycle), I ovulated cd 14-15.
But I've known several of the women on here did ovulated late-ish, especially if they took too much or too little.
