I have some successes too. I am 42 and have dealing with idopathic hirsitism for years now. I kept the hair and acne under control with aldactone for many years. My biggest problem is the once a month chin zit that sometimes leaves a scar. The hair is a problem too but a lot of it is under the chin and not visible to the world. I quit smoking 5 years ago and my weight ballooned up about 60 lbs which put me at 200 plus. At that point I had been medication free for about 2 years. The weight gain caused the hormones to go wild and the acne flared . I went on bcp hormones and sugar busters. I lost 40 lbs , returned to regular walking and some pilates and got things under control. I went off the hormones only to discover that I felt pretty darn good with out them. An acne scar during that time forced me to go to a plastic surgeon and im now getting microdermabrasion and i have laser hair removal coming up and a few scar revisions to be done next month. Im back on bcp for now till my surgery is over cause it calms down my skins oversensitivity. Then,Im only going to take tetracycline for the monthly cyst because I never had touble with it. ( Took that before I was diagnosed). Im glad I had the latest problem because otherwise I never would have gone to the plastic surgeon which is going very well for me. I was scared to death to go becasue that meant I had to go and look someone in the eye and admit that I had a scarring problem and hair growing on my face. I had and have been in denial for years. For anyone like me...... I waited to go till i knew that my confidence level would be highest ( it is cycle related...there are times when I feel kinda timid) I walked in there, in a nervous sweat and said look at me and faced it..It was very nerve wracking but now Im just matter of fact about it all. The drs deal with this every day, to them its their work. And the same for the RN who does the microdermabrasion. She is probably the most non judgemental person in my life. I have no self-consciencness with these people. My success is on two levels, 1. I was able to control my acne problem for years with the medication. No regrets there. 2. I overcame fears and went to the plastic surgeon and now Im thrilled and looking forward to the future again. 3. One more I didnt mention....my search for a cure led me on a spiritual path that would not have happend without the problem. It is because of my spiritual enlightenment that I can get thru the emotional upheavals. I read all books I could get my hands on. Also, becasue of that understanding, my husband and i give as much money as possible to charitys involving children. ( we have none but i have a stepdaughter whom i like verymuch.) I can't prove it but i know my health is getting better because of it..atonement I think it's called. Sorry to go on but that is probably the last thing i need to do with this board. Its great to get it out there.

The hair on my head is falling out more than ever and the hair on my face is growing in as fast.

I would really love to hear some more success stories to cheer me up and give me some hope.

Thumbs up This is a great idea!

Hi All!

It's so encouraging to read success stories. I don't really have one yet, but my ongoing progress is remarkable to me.

I was dx'd January 2002. My dr (a clomid px'er) finally got around to telling me July 2002! After I developed a very painful cyst in September 2002, I refused more clomid. (Yes I did drop his happy hinney!) I came to this site and read everything I could. There is so much information here, it took almost 2 weeks to formulate a plan.

I decide to :
1. Change my eatting habits
2. Increase my vitamin intake
3. Treat all my PCOS sx's with herbs.

It worked! I have O'd every month since September, lost 15 lb, and just last week I noticed that my facial and body hair is finer! (Woo-Hoooo!!!!) I pluck my chin whiskers about every 4-5 days and shave my legs once a week! The biggest plus is my scalp has little hairs growing in all over! (Thank you God!)

I pray that we will all beat this thing!!

Talking :D

I say that I low carb, but I am not very rigid about how I eat. If I want it, I eat just a wee bit. I cut out most of the sugary sweets, pasta, and breads. I also stopped snacking on chips. (Go Pork Rinds!) Nuts of all sorts don't stand a chance at my house. I eat so much peanut butter, now my DH craves it! I don't eat low-fat. For a treat, I have a diet soda.

To O and help heal my reproductive systems:

Vitex
False Unicorn Root
Dong Quai
Evening Primrose Oil
I use Licorice (cd5 - 9) like clomid to help lenthen my LP and provide a strong O
Alfalfa
Red Rasberry
Green Tea.

For the PCOS sx's :

Soy Lecithin
Lot's of B-Vitamins. A B-complex, extra B-6, B-12 and Inositol.
Saw Palmetto
Flaxseed Oil

For General Health

Prenatal Vitamins
Vitamin C
Vitamin E
Calcium

Written, it seems like a bit much. But it works.

Great thread!

It's refreshing to read about women taking charge of their health like this. Determined to heal themselves and having success with the appropriate changes (changes unique to each individual)!

A toast to you all!!

I hope to have a big success story to share in 4 months with the changes that I've made.

Keep the stories coming! (reading too much "woe is me" is bad for the spirit!).

Take care.

hi lileve!

thanks for getting back to me again!

may i ask what is "cm"? and how will i know that i am ovulating? i menstruate every month but does that guarantee that i am ovulating?

as well, are there any natural methods to regulate insulin without taking any meds?

thanks again for your help! i am glad the changes that you implemented are working out for you!

Talking Hi Bandanna!

Bandanna,

CM is Cervical Mucus. It is one of the signs of fertility. There are stages of cervical mucus. Dry - no mucus. Sticky - damp, Creamy - lotion-like, Wet - thin snotty-like, and the best, egg-white - like the stuff in a hen's egg. From AF to ovulation, women can observe some or all types.

A blood test or charting your temperature daily will let you know if you are ovulating.

A search on the Alternative Remedies forum will give you lots of information on natural ways to regulate insulin. In the time before I ovulate (O), I sometimes use cinnamon. I don't use it after I O because I am trying to concieve and I read somewhere that cinnamon can cause AF to come.

PM me if you have more questions.

I've been taking metformin for a couple of months now and I've noticed a significant decrease in hair on my face and body. It's getting a lot more fine, growing slower, and in some areas, disappearing altogether!

I just wanted to turn this into a sticky as requested and say that hearing about success stories is great. Please keep them coming if you have them cysters. It's encouragement for those of us that haven't had success but are hoping for it one day. I hope that I too will be able to post a success story some day. Congrats to all of those that already have. And good luck to those that are trying. We can beat this cysters!
