I have read that clomid taken earlier in the cycle = more follies and clomid taken later in the cycle = bigger follies. I have read women with PCOS who take clomid early in the cycle may respond better... and then I have read there is no real statistical difference between groups who take it earlier and groups who take it later.
I have taken 50mg CDs 3-7 ... and no O. Then 100mg CDs 2-6... no O. My next plan is 150mg CDs 5-9... right now I am waiting for AF (just finished provera a few days ago...)
We just changed insurance so we have fertility coverage now but that doesn't start until the first of the year. I guess if the 150mg doesn't make me O or just doesn't get me preg... maybe we'll be talking injectables, I don't know. I am not sure I am ready for injectables.
I am a little confused as to what you mean when you say you hadn't been on clomid 100mg before... but this is going to be your 3rd month to take it... Do you mean you took it twice in the past at 50mg and now will be starting 100mg... or you took it in the past, took a break, and now you are on your 3rd month at 100mg...
I mean, I don't get if 100mg didn't work before... or you are just starting out on 100mg...
If you have not yet given 100mg a try... try it before going to 150. The higher you go in dose, the more likely to have bad side effects - hostile cervical mucus, thin uterine lining - which can hinder conception. (Yeah it's ironic, clomid can both make you ovulate and cause fertility problems...) That's why you want to start low and find the lowest does that will help.
If you know 100mg doesn't make you ovulate, you may need to go up to 150. There are women who don't ovulate on one dose but will ovulate when they go up in dose. But if you have ovulated at 100mg and just not gotten preg, I would try to figure out if there is some other reason before going up in dose.
Supposedly even when everything is right - woman ovulates and she has sex at the right time - there is only a 20-25% chance of conception. So if you ovulate but don't get preg on clomid - it doesn't neccassarily mean anything is wrong. But if you ovulate for a few months in a row on clomid and don't get preg, there may be other factors. Blocked tubes, poor sperm count/quality... or clomid can be causing cervical or uterine issues... etc... so you'd want to investigate these things before going up in dose, if possible... since going up in dose may not help and may actually hurt.
On the other hand, I have heard of women who take clomid... get pregnant... and miscarry... but then on a higher dose get pregnant and stay pregnant... meaning maybe more clomid = stronger ovulation for them and therefore more likely to get pregnant.
It's all so confusing, isn't it?
I used to think well it sucks that PCOS means I can't get pregnant... but then I figured I'd just pop a few pills and that would fix that problem... well I am still waiting for those pills to fix that particular problem.
