Default Success w/ Saw Palmetto???

Here's a little background.......I have been taking herbs and natural supplements for over a year now and so far, have had pretty good results (e.g. less acne, regular periods, etc.). However, I haven't been able to lower my DHT (which is currently about 4 times the normal amount) or decrease my facial hair (obviously, its because of the DHT). So, my doctor recommended that I start taking 360mgs of Saw Palmetto daily. Here are my questions:

Have you had success with Saw Palemetto?

If so, how long did take for you to see results??

Any response is very much appreciated!!

I used Saw Palmetto for around 5 months and saw little change in my skin as far as clearing acne. Although I did not get a lot of new pimples. So I guess you can say it helped a little. One positive was that I noticed my hair falling out a lot less. I did feel dizzy while taking it and so I stopped.

Hope this helped.

I've said this a million times btu its okay

Within 2 weeks I saw a change in my skin from taking SP. I had the most painful and red cystic acne (sometimes having 6 big hurting ones at once on my face) And now I get hardly anything, maybe a pimple once in a while. But as soon as I get off SP those deep cystic ones come back so thats how I know it works for me.

Even though shell3 did not have a good experience with it, you must give it a chance. I've been taking it since December now and do not plan on stopping anytime soon as it has been such a relief not to have thos awful zits anymore. If you want to know anything else feel free to ask me, good luck! I hope you give it a chance and that it works for you!

I'm back on the pill now, but I saw a real improvement with saw palmetto. My hair fell out a lot less and my facial hair was much finer and thinner. It's different for everyone but good luck!

thanks for all your responses! I've only been taking it for 3 months so I think I just need to be patient and give it another couple months....*fingers crossed*

SP had really helped me with hair loss. I took it for a little over a year, and in that time my shedding was down considerably and my hair started filling back in. It wasn't back to "normal", but it was such a difference that I stopped worrying about it. After I went off SP, the shedding and thinning started within 2 weeks again.

SP didn't help me with acne or hirsutism though. In fact, it may even have contributed to my acne a little but it's hard to tell.

I have decided to give Saw Palmetto another go. I was off for a month but I have noticed that the problems I had before came back after going off SP. I was loosing a lot of hair again after taking a shower. I noticed I lost about 50 hairs each day. I have been on Saw Palmetto for 5 days and I don't think I lost even 5 hairs this morning after showering. I am convinced that it helps with shedding. I am not completely sure if it helps with facial hair. I also noticed that my t-zone seemed a little less oily. I still have pimples and am praying that I can get a handle on it some way. I have lost 33 lbs and eat a low carb diet. I rarely eat refined sugar and drink pop next to never. Not sure why I still have the acne. Hope this helps those considering Saw Palmetto. It has definitely worked for me as far as hair loss as I said in my previous post.

I have been taking it for 5 days. I have not noticed any changes just yet. I will let you all know how it goes in a few months.

How is everybody doing w/ their saw palmetto?

I've been taking it for almost four months....my doctor will re-test my blood levels within the next month or so. I'm hoping it finally lowers my DHT...*fingers crossed*

I've been on it for about 2 weeks now, and haven't seen much difference yet. My skin may be a little clearer. I am waiting for it to help my hair loss!

I took SP for about a year and i did notice a big differance with hair on upper lip, it was wasnt as strong as it was before and was coming in less, some days i didnt shave, also head on hair seemed to healthier. I havent taken it for about 4 months and i am going to go back on it.
It worked for me.

I started taking saw palmetto last month. I haven't noticed a difference in my hair growth yet but I got my FIRST heavy natural period in about a year. So, a definite thumbs up!!

How many mg of SP do you guys take each day? Do you take a standardized extract or non-standardized?
