Unhappy Sugar Levels Whacked!!!

Hi all,
Was wondering if anyone out there could suggest how to get my body back in tune. I've ruined it, and I know I have. Im reaping bad repercussions for it. For the past few years I've been battling with my sugar dropping on me suddenly. I get nauseated, weak and sometimes I can barely make it to the kitchen for food....I keep peppermints handy though. (My moms diabetic and suggested those to bring it up quickly). Anyway, I know I should eat a breakfast, but I hate breakfast food and so a few years ago, my body got used to not eating til around noon. Now, in 2006....my sugar is dropping alot more, dropped 2x yesterday, and just a few minutes ago. For the last 2 years, Ive been living off 1, maybe 2 meals a day....I'm a truck driver and dont stop much during the day. Im no longer on the road, but still, I dont eat til noon, then I eat a dinner and then later that night, my sugar drops or I'm starving. Also, what's up with the bathroom breaks? I'm so sick of using the restroom...I'm considering moving into my bathroom! Someone please help!

Well, Leo...First of all, you need to eat three well balanced meals a day. Watch your carbs and fat...You also need to see your doctor. By some of the symptoms you are having, I would say your sugar levels are high and that is the reason you are in the bathroom all the time. Frequent urination is a sure sign of type 2...I bet you are constantly thirsty too, aren't you? Go to the doctor for some blood work and have a gtc done. Start there. The sugar dropping is also a sign. It is real important to watch what you eat and eat healthy...I was dx type 2 last year and I controlled my sugar with diet and exercise before my endo put me on metformin for PCOS...Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

OMG....yeah, thx. My mom and I were just talking about it earlier today and she and I were basically agreeing about my being type 2, just need to confirm it along with my pcos. Been suffering from that since 12!! And yes, I stay thirsty and dehydrated alot!! I'll try what you've suggested though. I know I shouldve been changed my diet. Foolish me! Better late than never though.

Please go to the doctor...type 2 can mess up so much and cause more health problems on top of what is already wrong...I didn't know I was type 2 when I was dx...I didn't know the symptoms and I didn't know what was going on. All I knew is that I didn't feel well at all and lived in the bathroom...lol..I hope you feel better soon...

Yeah, I've waited for way to long for the type2 and the pcos. I can remember about 3years ago, I was in an e.r. room complaining of my sugar dropping. Doc told me to pee in a cup and said, "oh, ur fine, just need to lose weight." I was furious because I got a healthy bill for that visit! I'm like...DUH, I know I need to lose weight....tell me what the underlying prob is doc! But now I laugh at that because I should have known not to trust them. I should have sought the advice and care of a specialist. The problem is that now I dont have insurance and I'm a FT college student on a disability claim for my pinched nerve in lower spine, so trying to see results of that before deciding to work again. Wanted to go back to truck driving but need to get my health straightened out first. WHEW! So many dilemmas I tell ya! Someone suggested that I talk to my local health department.

In the mean time maybe try eating cinnamon? I do and it has been shown to regulate insulin levels and also to help curb sugar cravings. I usually just mix some in yogurt or applesauce, you could sprinkle it on toast - anything, but it has really helped me. Good luck!

I always get confused over sugars and triglycerides and all that crap. My sugar is 7, I know its not good (borderline type 2) but its not terrible either. My friend has it and he struggles to keep his under 10 and he has to give himself jabs at every meal.

Leo you need to go to the doctor and make sure you don't need to go on meds. Eat regularly and try taking chromium tablets, they control sugar cravings (such a godsend). Probably much like cinnamon except I don't like cinnamon unless its on a donut Chromium tablets also have manganese or magnesium (one of those) which helps with tummy upsets which is a nice bonus.

And who said you need to have breakfast foods at breakfast time? If you have some healthy thing that you like, eat that for breakfast, too.

Well first of all a 96 isn't bad at all for a fasting level, 2 hours your blood sugar should be back to around 100, which is normal. 185 is considered as a little high. Your doc may dx you as type 2, so don't be shocked if he does. Are you on metformin? Did you take any for a few days before the test? If you did, you need to mention this to your doc and he may want to redo the test after you've been off met for a few days. Good luck and I hope this helps. PM me if you need me..

Thx all, I'm liking the cinnamon idea. And as far as breakfast is concerned, I do eat other foods, but I think my body is so distorted now that it doesnt send a signal to eat until around noon. In other words, I have to retrain my thought processes and get back used to eating 3x a day or better yet 5x a day...small meals throughout. And O, I did good this morn, its not the best for breakfast but its a start from me eating 'nothing'. I had a bowl of cereal before I left for the college!

A bowl of cereal is great...next time, mix in some fruit, low fat milk and you've got a great breakfast. That is usually what I eat. I either eat that or low fat yogurt, fruit and a very tiny muffin...What time of cereal did you eat? Hopefully nothing real sweet...

Thx for asking Fly, I had some Honey Bunches of Oats....hope thats not considered 2 sweet? You know I'm new at this, so I havent started 'watching' the carbs, sugars and etc. yet. But I take it that was a decent choice, and yeah, next time I'll have to add the fruits, like the muffin idea 2.

I'm bad with breakfast too, not to say I don't eat it but I don't really want to eat anything until I've been up a couple of hours which is usually the time I'm walking into work so I get something like a crossiant or unhealthy toast.

I started forcing myself to eat breakfast at home before I leave in the mornings and it was hard at first but now I wake up starving.
