Hi....I just saw the movie Supersize Me on TV. It's the one where the man tries to eat nothing but McDonalds food for a month to see what happens to his health... They mention PCOS, but I think it was on a list of diseases CAUSED by obesity...diabetes was also on the list. I'm not sure I heard correctly because my ears didn't perk up till they said Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. Does anyone have a copy of this movie who could watch it more closely and find out what it says for sure? Perhaps, it said diseases "assoiciated" with obesity or something like that. Millions of people saw this movie and I hope it wasn't as misleading as I thought. (I think other things about his experiment were misleading as well, but that's another topic.)

That's what it says.
He's talking about childhood obesity and what problems it can cause later on in life.
I found the whole movie fascinating, but you are right, that part was misleading.
It's on the TMC channel some....we have satelite and have watched it a couple of times.
Hope this helped.
Hugs
Julie

Thanks for the info. I wanted to rewind, but...it was tv. haha. I was hoping I heard it wrong, though.

You are right...even though I enjoyed the movie, PCOS is mentioned and the information about it is incorrect. I remember seeing it in the movie theater and I almost jumped out of my seat and yelled, "That's wrong!" I wanted to hop up and lecture that audience about PCOS, but decided that they probably wouldn't appreciate it at the time! So, I had to keep my mouth shut! LOL!

I saw that too! I also think that when you over eat, you probably would barf too, just as he did. That just was not a good example of how it could affect you by stuffing yourself sick. People just need to take responsibility for their choices and actions rather than blame it on someone else.

we should write to they and let them know they got it wrong. And give them and idea for their show 30 days. They should do 30 days in the live of a women with pcos and that is over weight. Have some skinny uptight women wear a fat suit for 30 days with hair planted on her chin and see how she feels.

This is the letter I sent to info@supersizeme.com I'm not sure if that was the correct address for comments, but it was worth a try. I haven't heard anything back.

Hello. I recently saw the supersize me movie and I noticed that you have PolyCystic Ovary Syndrome on your list of diseases associated with obesity, and I believe it is presented in a misleading way. A woman who has PCOS is likely to become overweight or to have weight issues as a child, due to the endocrine disorder. She does not become polycystic from being overweight or from being overweight as a child. Two women could eat the same all their lives and only the one with the disease would have the syndrome. There are also many thin women who have PCOS. Since you use your movie in educational presentations, it would be prudent to remove this mention from the list or use it in a different way. Those of us who suffer with this illness do not appreciate the spread of out-of-date or misinformation, even when it is unintentional.
If you need current research on PCOS, please feel free to visit www.SoulCysters.net .
Thanks for your time,

I still haven't heard anything back from them. Not even a notice that they received my letter. Anyone else want to try? Here is their website http://www.supersizeme.com/
