Default Support Thread for Struggling UK Dieters/Exercisers

OK Alison, and everyone else of course, here it is... A place for all those of us who are struggling with food and exercise!!!

So how is everyone doing?

This week has been a good one for me in terms of food....for the first time in a long time. I've eaten really healthily...no naughty stuff at all which is fantastic. My motivation is back... Now, if only I could find the time for exercise. During the week is a disaster because I don't get home til six then spend an hour and a half with Dara before she goes to bed. By then I'm knackered. But now that the brighter evenings are here I'm hoping to convince a friend to come out walking with me at least twice a week and then do two big walks at the weekend.

Ok....talk soon.

Paddy

Hi everyone, not posted properly for a bit.

Thanks for the thread, I could use it right now

Had my 6 monthly checkup at the PCOS clinic last week and I have gained a bit of weight. I was 66kg last time I went, now I'm 73kg. I started the whole thing at about 78kg so I was obviously less than impressed and so were they!!

I knew it had happened. I went on holiday to Cuba 3 weeks ago and the food was APPAULING. The only thing edible was bread and pancakes. If I had not ate that I would literally have not eaten all week, so there we have it - the CULPRIT! lol. I have undone sooo much hard work over he last 1-2 years, I am so annoyed!

My cholestrol has gone down to 6 something (can't remember exact figure) and it was 7 so I spose at least there is a slight plus point.

My sugar levels seem to have gone absolutely haywire so the specialist changed my Metformin to slow release tablets to stop me getting wobbly. They won't up my dose to 1500 or 2000 until I have my wobbly issues under control again.

I am still doing my running most nights for about 20 mins and aerobics at home for 30 mins or more each night. not that it makes a blind bit of difference!

Since this news I have been strict no carbing (only 4 days) and I do feel a bit better for it again so will continue, I know I can do it as I did it before. The forum challenge went all wrong for me as I was in alot of tummy pain and could only manage certain foods because of IBS, then I went on holiday...

I HAVE to get under 64kg hopefully in the next 6 months or so or things are just going to get worse.

Know what you mean about the evenings, once you get in and settled it's just a nightmare to be motivated to go out again!!

We can do it

Hi Shellie and Eva

How have you been doing today?

Shellie...it all sounds a bit rough for you at the moment. I hope the slow release met does some good. Sounds like you're doing PLENTY of exercise. Sorry the food in Cuba wasn't so great...you'll get back on track.

So far, so good with me. I've lost 5 pounds in the past ten days so I'm pretty chuffed.

Chin up Caz... I hope you are feeling better soon and can wave bye-bye to that chocolate!!!! Chocolate is my biggest food addiction and I find it so hard to give it up. There something so comforting about the texture of it melting in your mouth. Nothing like a giant bag of buttons and mug of steamy coffee. I love it when I'm eating it but it makes me feel so sluggish afterwards...it takes me hours to recover.

Eva - give us an update on how you got on at your appointment. Eleven stone, I can't even remember the last time my scales said eleven stone!!! I would like to get down to 13 stone, that's what I was before I got pregnant. So I've another three stone to lose. I'm just hoping I can keep the motivation going now.

Shellie - how's tricks girl? Still doing all that exercising?

Yesterday was my day off and the weather was fantastic...really sunny and crisp. I persuaded my friend to come walking with me and we did five miles around a lake pushing buggies... It was lovely! We are on holidays in Ireland next week and I'm hoping to get some more long walks in. I'm still doing OK with my food - just hope I can be so disciplined with my food when I'm away!

Talk soon folks.

Paddy

Hi,
I hope I can gate crash this thread. I am 33 and am on met, I am currently trying to do low carb, and I have starting going to the gym on a regular basis in a hope of one day being able to buy all my clothes in any shop on the high street I want to.

I am currently size 20/18 at 13 st 6lb and 5ft 6", but am feeling very proud of myself as I have so far lost 1st 1lb since Xmas. So only 3st to go......

Do any of you do low carb? If so do you buy any of the low carb stuff from the internet? Which site do you use?
Thanks
Ali

does anyone else here go to the gym on a morning?

i find it so much easier to fit in, by just getting up an hr earlier in the morning. it means it is done and dusted so i dont have to worry about going after a hard day at work, and also (supposedly so the books/internet etc say) boosts your metabolism so it works more efficiently during the day. i would deffo recommend it - even if just a couple of times a week. ive found it means i have more free time on an evening, and i just go to bed a bit earlier on a nightime to make up for the fact that im getting up a bit earlier.

also, my friend and i at work have started going out for a walk on our lunch hour at least once a week (although we didnt last week coz it was so cold and rainy!) but we are hoping to either tomorrow or Thursday so we get back into it.

i had my 1st wedding dress fitting on Saturday and the lady had to pin it in at the bust and the tummy. ive only lost a lb or 2 since i ordered it ( and i normally go up and down about 2 lbs either side of my 'normal weight' anyway) but she said i had deffo lost 'size'. i was getting a bit disheartened about the lack of 'weight' loss but i was really motivated by the fact that im 'toning up'... although i dont want my chest to get any smaller...!!

i also read a tip in a magazine..... which sounds a bit sad... but does work... i have some weights at home, and keep them next to the sofa, so when im watching tv or when the ad breaks are on, i can quickly to a few sets of arm curls or shoulder presses or whatever. i also sometimes do situps during the ad breaks...not much i know, but im sure it all adds up!

anyway i'm probably babbling a bit now so i'll sign off, but keep up the good work girls! xx

Hello guys!!! Baby has popped out and I am ready to lose some weight!!!

I have just under 3 stone to lose to reach my prepregnancy weight. Now the thing is, Chris and I are getting married on April 7th next year so I need to be slimmer than my prepregnancy weight to look FANTASTIC on my wedding day! So, really I have one year to lose as much weight as I can.

At the moment its coming off quite quickly- I cant drive after my section so having to walk everywhere. Also breastfeeding (well expressing) is helping. But after the birth I seemed to lose my appetite for a few weeks- now it is starting to return and the yummy things are starting to appeal again!!

I am determined not to be fat on my wedding day!! I know it would ruin the day for me!!!

oh what a disaster! I have now been going to weight watchers for 12 weeks and I have lost a total of..... 2 lbs

I try so hard and it just doesn't work.

I will not give up though! Remain positive! Visualise myself slimmer!
