Default Surgery.... and fear

Hi ladies. I've been a lurker on and off for years, but have finally gotten an official diagnosis a couple months ago. I won't bother with my long story, but my doctor has just suggested that I get a hysteroscopy, D & C, and resectoscope. I have a "bumpy" uterine lining and several polyps. I started Fortamet a month and a half ago, and have been having extremely light periods since then (previously I had nothing for months on end).

For those that have gone through the hysteroscopy and D & C, what can I expect?? And, I've read (online - not always the most reliable source) that they resectoscope uses electric currant to destroy the uterine lining so that a woman cannot have children. My doctor says the resectoscope is just used to remove the polyps and is aware that I'd like to start TTC in a year or so.

Has anyone gone through the resectoscope to remove polyps? Rendering my uterus unusable scares me... even if it's just the parts where the polyps are. I am planning on calling the doc soon (surgery is not for a month) to discuss this, but was wondering whether anyone else had a similar experience.

Thanks!!!

Emily

Hi Emily!

You've come to a great place for information. Not only will women here share experiences, but can answer questions (unlike medical sites).

There are lots of threads on D&C and hysteroscopy. I have not come across resectoscope, but use the Search at the top of the screen to look around.

I recently had lap surgery that included a hysteroscopy & D&C. Will you be going under general ansthesia for the procedures?

From the D&C & hysteroscopy I had discomfort for a few days and some bleeding (think period day 3 for 5 days or so). I wore a pad - do not wear tampons. Also, wear cotton panties. Wear something very comfortable (I wore a cotton dress) as your muscles will be sore afterwards. My female region was sore for a few days from the position they have you in & they told be the ansthesia makes you tense.

Please let me know if you have any questions. It's great your dr knows that you want to TTC and is working with you.

I'm sorry I can't share anymore (in regards to resectoscope), but I know there are other cysters out there that have more/better advice.

Let me know how it goes!
