Default Is surgery really necessary here?? HELP!!

I have been dealing with occasional pain for a long time and only within the last year or so has is gotten increasingly MORE painful. My doctor originally found the pain at my yearly well woman exam. She did ultrasounds and because those came back clear, she called in a pain medication for me but never really followed up. I ended up going to and GYN hoping for more definitive answers. Well after ultrasound after ultrasound and bloodtest AFTER bloodtest, (including numerous other tests) a cyst was finally found and when it wouldn't go away my doctor scheduled a laparoscopy and through that procedure diagnosed me with PCOS. A couple of weeks after surgery I was hurting really badly again so I went back. My doctor tried putting me on a stronger birth control but it hasn't helped. She has now told me there's nothing else she can do for me but to remove half of one of my ovaries. I'm missing work and I'm desperate for answers but is this truly the best option?? I'm scared to make the wrong decision here.

I suggest looking up Ob/gyn's in your area for those with more knowledge on PCOS, as not every Ob knows much on the subject.

Default Second Opinion

Thank you for responding. The responses I've received on this site has really helped encourage my guy and I to seek a second opinion from an endocrinologist to make sure nothing can be done to balance out hormones as needed before I also go see a different GYN. I haven't been comfortable with asking her questions from the beginning but as this gets more serious and could definitly affect future fertility, we started thinking about going somewhere else but wasn't sure if I was just being scared about the inevitable outcome. This site has been a godsend.
