Surprise trip - need advice!

Hubby surprised me tonight with news that he is taking off next Thursday and Friday to take me away for a couple of days for our 10th anniversary. He's not good at deciding on trips - I'll usually find places to go.

We live mid- Illinois (north of Peoria area) and are interested some ideas from all of you gals' on where to go visit for a couple of days.... can be festival/event type thing, museums or good places to eat along with sightseeing. Don't want to go into Chicago so sorry don't suggest that city. We only want to drive 2-4 hours one way. Can be in Iowa, Indiana, upper Missouri or lower Wisconsin.

What a great surprise!

Are you taking your little one with you? If so I was going to suggest the Children's Museum in Indianapolis. It's awesome. Fun for the kids and the grown-ups too!

If it's just you and your hubby going, there are some nice theme suites in Clinton IL (I think they have jungle theme, space theme, and a whole bunch of others). I've never been there but my sister-in-law and her hubby have stayed there and loved it.

I'm from Champaign-Urbana, it's not too far from here, but I'm not sure what the driving time would be from your area.

Another nice place we've gone is Turkey Run State Park, they have a nice lodge there, and it's such a beautiful place to go hiking (or if you're like us, it's more walking!)

Thanks for your ideas. No we won't be taking the little guy. He's in kindergarten. Don't know how I will take it. Haven't been away from him for more than a few hours or an overnighter at Grandma's. He will be staying with both Grandma's - have to take turn ya know.

Any other ideas....
