Default Surrogacy?

Is this the right place to talk about surrogacy?

We've been talking about using my cousin as a surrogate for us -- the kind where she carries my egg fertilized with my DHs sperm.

Whose health insurance covers her? Is there more to it (obviously there's some legal work) than basically doing an IVF and putting the eggs into her instead of me?

Thanks!

I looked into surrogacy briefly and it seemed to me to be very involved and very expensive. I would do a search on Yahoo or another site and type in Surrogate Mothers. Also, you have to petition to "adopt" the baby, even though it is yours. That may have depended on whose egg was used, I can't honestly remember. I know for me that the "rules" outweighed the "benefits" for me personally. Hope this helps a bit! You could also make an appointment to talk with a surrogacy lawyer to get the ins and outs. Good Luck!!

With it being family I think there are less hoops to jump through persay. But it would depend on your insurance's. Mine excludes surrogacy period. It really depends on the state you both live in that determines what hoops you have to jump through.
Like the PP said I would see an attorney and find out what the laws are in your state.
Good luck!

I not sure about there but here if you have found your own surrogate it is a little cheaper. Here it would go through you because all the medical treatment happen to you not really her except she would have to pass the physical and the pschyolgical(sp?) testing and the meds she is on is minimal like I think it is estrace to thicken the lining and surrpress her ovaries and the possibile progesterone after if needed. Here there is a legal contract drown up but no adoption because genetically it is your child so I am not sure about there.

I think the best place to start is to talk to your RE and they will guide you through it. HTH
