Default Survey About NPC & Hirsutism

Hi, I was wondering if anyone else had this problem with natural progesterone cream which is why I'm doing a survey.

I used NPC about a year ago, for three months. During those three months I had regular cycles which I was very happy about but I also developped some hirsutism which was not there before. So after the three months, I stopped because I was suspecting that the NPC was causing the hair growth. As soon as I stopped using the cream, the hair growth stopped. I was also using the highest quality cream available at 20 mg twice a day which is the recommended amount.

I don't want to alarm anyone but I was wondering if it's just me with this problem or if NPC has the possibility to cause this? I did a search on NPC on the internet and most websites mention that it actually eliminates hirsutism not the other way around. I became interested in NPC after reading the ebook by Catherine Rollins. She founded the women's advisory network which studies natural progesterone cream for female problems including pcos. I have emailed her about my concern but she has not responded. So, I'd like to know if anyone else has had this hair growth problem with NPC. If so, then I will try to alert her about promoting NPC for pcos on her website. I will also alert the people working for the late Dr. John Lee who also promoted progesterone for pcos.

No I don't believe your the only one... In 2003 I started using NPC to help me keep my pregnancy ( I'm suffering from Recurrent Miscarriages 7 actually we believe due to PCOS) I used it the entire month of november.. I ended up losing the pregnancy.. I believe I tried using it again in December but I was so upset over the loss.. I just gave up. By January of 04 I started noticing hair on my chin and jaw.. I have always been hairy.. up until recently.. I just figured it was something I was given by my mom lol I always had more then most girls.. but anyway it wasn't bad but noticeable to me and so I plucked the few hairs.. then it started getting worse and worse.. I believe I tried to use the cream again and bam more hair.. I was so upset.. I was maintaining the hair before all of this pretty well.. Eyebrows/lip... Nothing big.. I didn't have to pluck to often and was pretty faint.. now not the case.. I have to remove it constantly.. I am so mad that I have to go through this... i also thought I was the only one.. I wish I knew why it is doing this. I know we are all different but this I did not expect. :o

Thanks for your reply silverfairy. Progesterone is a precursor to other hormones including testosterone. Maybe in some women, it has the capacity to increase testosterone levels instead of decreasing it. But what's funny is that Dr. John Lee who did all the studies on natural progesterone cream says that it actually lowers androgens and can eliminate acne and excess hair growth. Maybe it's what should happen in theory but in practice, it's a whole other story.

But then again, NPC regulated my cycles...so it worked for one thing but worsened something else. I'd really like to have more testimonials from other women who've had the same problems to confirm that NPC should be used with extreme caution unless you don't mind being hairy

Yes, I know what you mean.. I have read about Dr John Lee since I started ttc in 02' I didn't try it until the following year.. and it had the opposite effect.. BUT I did carry the pregnancy further then I ever had... So even though I got one negative there was a positive... I didn't try it after that but I also haven't been PG in a long time.. about a year. it's so diffcult to find what does work and what doesn't.. My poor body!

Saw Palmetto (sp?) doesn't work for me either.. I've tried it to.. now my mom uses it and has success with it.. but she's used NPC and it did nothing.. didn't help her Cycles or anything.. so I assume that finding something that will work is going to be the mission... Eh!

I don't need anymore hair. My head hair alone could be donated for several wigs! lol

You might want to try some liquid vitex extract instead of NPC to regulate your cycles. I find it works very well for me.

You might also want to take 100 to 200 mg of vitamin B6 daily as part of a B complex. B6 binds with excess testosterone and it works great to stop and reverse hirsutism.

Green tea extract can also be a good alternative to Saw Palmetto which doesn't work for me either.

Hello- Question about B6 and B Complex...

My multi-vitamin includes 27 mg of B6 as well as amounts of other B vitamins. Is it ok for me to just get some extra B6 that will bump it up to 100-200mg? Or do I need to also bump up all of the other B vitamins with another B complex? I've heard it is not possible to OD on B vitamins because your body will just get rid of what it doesn't need- is that true?

Thanks!

Hi carmsnewsong, if you already take a multivitamin with atleast 25 mg of each B vitamin in it, then you'll just need to add some extra B6. Try taking an extra 100 mg of B6 daily to see if it helps you out with hirsutism, acne and ovulation.
