Points: 92.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 92.00 | Well, besides having PCOS with all the fun stuff it gives you (I take Diane-35 for it) I have the following grocery list of medical problems:
IBS - Imodium (I keep them in business)
Manic/Depression - Effexor & Clonazepam
Diabetes - Metformin
High Blood Pressure - Atenolol & Hydrochlorthiazide
Gallbladder disease - removed Nov/00
GERD - Prevacid
Hiatus hernia
Severe fatty liver
Morbidly obese
Migraines (hormone induced)
PMS (big time!)
Hot flashes (I feel like I'm on fire!)
Fatigue
Heel pain (probably from weight)
Arthritis in hips
TMJ - bite guard
Teeth grinding
Near sightedness
After writing all these things down I never realized how long the list was. It's no wonder someone told me yesterday that I should live at my doctor's office because I am there so often. Nice comment, eh!
Thanks for having this site. I really need to talk to others with PCOS.

Points: 67.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 67.00 | OP,
Good question!
Ok, here's my list:
1996 Hyperthyroidism treated with radioactive iodine. Done twice.
1997 Hypothyroid from previous treatment
Gained 100 pounds within 6 months
Weight mostly located in middle stomach
Testosterone, Cholesterol
and Triglycerides dangerously high
Periods stopped
While being checked for Cushing's etc.
found brain tumor called "meningioma"
Ulcers on tongue
Pericardial Effusion
Fatty liver
Plus all the symptoms of PCOS except infertility
So that's my menu.
These symptoms and signs all developed within a 6 month period. With all the doctors and treatments I have been through, the only change in the last 4 years is getting my period back recently after starting glucophage. Still looking for the elusive doctor that can look at all these ala carte ailments and produce one disorder.
Thanks for reading this far,
Opal |

-dxed with Hidradenitis Suppurativa in july 2000 ( a skin disorder causing boil or cyst like sores in various areas of the body)
-this led me to PCOS (see my list in my sig)
-chronic sinusitis due to my body lacking in a blood protein (immnuo globin really) called ICG or IGC (makes the mucus lining that traps germs)
-prone to chest infections because of the sinus trouble
-huge family history of diabetes and HS (both grandfathers died from diabetes and both had HS sores)
-mother has autoimmune disorder called Sclero Derma
-i had pre-eclampsia with my son that made my BP go to 190/115 i was on meds for 3 months to get it down to 150/90 which is still higher than it always was before
-joint and bone pains every month
- tendonitis (similar to carpal tunnel)in my wrists after my son was born in 97. i required physio because i couldnt hold ANYTHING and dropped my little baby in the tub!!! i still get swollen wrists when i am working with my hands like painting
and thats all i can think of for now. but my son also has chronic sinusitis from the same missing immuno=globin. he will require IV immuno-therapy for it within the next couple of years

My Mood: Points: 106,351.36 Bank: 2,559,293.22 Total Points: 2,665,644.57 | First visit to this site but appears I have more in common with everyone than PCOS:
Dark patches of skin (inner thighs, elbows etc)
Skin tags
Muscle fatigue - slow to recover after exercise
short sightedness
Constant sore throat
Horrific PMT when Af does not appear - confusion, memory loss, irritability, exhaustion, teeth grinding at night, nightmares, hot flushes
Depression
BIG weight gain -
have known I have problem since miscarriage at 18 - told my original GP, persuaded him to refer me for scan after long time - finally diagnosed - but was told not to worry and that "Big is beautiful"
Changed GPs this year - only to be told by new one that probably have PCOS because I am fat!
Anyone know any helpful GPs in UK by the way?

Points: 46.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 46.00 | This is a fantastic topic - both my sister & I have been dx PCOS & I'm fairly sure Mum has it too (had total hyst. now though).
My other dxs are:- asthma (dx as adult, not medicated, mild); have had problems with my feet & knees (partly heriditary remainder put down to ballet - not so sure anymore); all the usual PCOS sypmtoms (relatively mild heirtuism, acne, depression, ovarian cysts, irrigular cycle, weight gain, infertility) occational leg muscle cramps & back/neck problems incl. pinched nerves.
My sister's dxs:- asthma (since childhood); most PCOS sypmtoms; early onset of pds; week knees/ankles (sporting injuries) - could be more I'm not sure.
My Mum's dxs:- early onset of pds - were heavy & lots of related symptoms (put on bcp quite young); irritable bowl syndrome (when had hyst. uterus was scraped off the bowl - YUCK!); endometiosus (removed by total hyst.); verigo; regular headaches, tennis elbow & back/neck problems. That's all I can think of right now.
Thanks for reading, sorry it's a bit long.
Luv,
oxdancer

1. PCOS- have the usual afflictions, hairy, fat, hair loss, acne.
2. Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder- I clean alot and check locks, don't even get me started on this Anthrax thing either...I bring in my mail with bacon tongs and refuse to open it!
3. I suspect I have Costochodritis, it flares up about once a month for a couple of weeks.
4. I also get low blood sugar attacks that leave me weak, tired and hungry this is especially true if I have eaten a sugary meal/item and then do not eat again for a few hours.
5. I am really sensitive to light too. Any amount of time outside on a sunny day gives me a bad headache. |
