Points: 31.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 31.00 | so happy I am not the only one... Hi..... I am new here... so let me jump in.
I went from being a socially active person to just shy of being coronated Queen of the Hermits.
Sciatica
Hirsuitism
Acne
massive (and still amassing) weight gain
skin tags
depression
pms (which is slowly turning into perpetual menstral syndrome)
insomnia
continuous headaches
anxiety
bulging disk in my back ( which reminds me not to take movement for granted)
"borderline" diabetic (non-insulin dependent)
Well.... that's enough for starters.
I noticed something was wrong when I was 18 and started on the pill. I was on it only for 3 months and I stopped. I have passed several cysts since then (I guess life would be boring otherwise ::::sarcasm::
When I was about 4 months pregnant.... things started getting goofy. I was blown off by my doctor. At 6 months pregnant... I was diagnosed w/ borderline diabetes.... and again I voiced my concerns for the onset of Yeti like qualities. (BTW... he told me that would all go away after I deliver... even after he found a huge cyst... but nothing could be done while I was expecting.)
After delivering our only child.... the symptoms did not go away. Instead they got worse. I was blown off.... told I must be genetically predisposed to being a furry female... "deal with it". I have just about every symptom of PCOS. I finally nagged my way to an endocrinologist. I also got the "slightly elevated" report... and was blown off.
It has gotten so bad that I have no social life. I do not go out. I get laser treatments when i can... but they only make my face "normal" for about 2 weeks.
I have been "coping" for 8 years.
Why does it seem like they are treating the symptoms.... yet not looking for the cause? As I look at my little girl..... I pray she is not afflicted when she grows up. |

Other than the common PCOS symptoms of facial hair, a big stomach and trouble losing weight, no periods unless I'm taking something and I had trouble getting pregnant, I really only have sinus problems and allergies. However, sometimes I think my 19 year old daughter might have PCOS. She was born with a heart condition called aortic stenosis. She also suffers from migraines. She has irregular periods and is on bcp's for that. She also has asthsma and allergies. Sometimes we wonder if she's ADD. She also has a little scoliosis. I don't know if I spelled everything right. |

Here is my list
hidradentis suppurativa (boils)
depression
headaches
esophogitis
While researching the hidradentis suppurativa I believe I found a link between the two. They both started at the same time and I always wondered. I found out that one of the major causes is high male hormones in your body, which of course goes along with PCOS. They also get worse if you are overweight and that goes along with the PCOS. Also I think that depression goes along with all of it.

Points: 773.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 773.00 | I was going to separate my symptoms into PCOS related and non-realted but I'm starting to think they are *all* PCOS related. Maybe we should send this thread to some researchers....
*Obesity since childhood- researching low carb, IR and low GI diets right now
*Irregular periods - was on BCP (Demulen/Zovia for 10 years - stopped in July and now have a roughly 40 day cycle with extrememly light periods
*Insulin Resistent - not diagnosed but I *know* I am
*Mild hair growth - not too bad but getting worse
*Mild ance - not too bad but it is more than I was used to on BCP
*IBS - the big "D" style, seems to be worse when I'm stressed or PMS-ing
*Regular migraines and headaches ( not migraines since I went off BCP)
*Neck pain and tension constantly
*Allergies - dust, pollen, pretty much anything outside, most animal fur , penicillin - Daily Flonase seems to help
*Prone to sinus infections and bronchitis - daily flonase
*Kidney stone - urologist suspects its uric acid
*Despression - this became less severe once I was off BCP but I still get a little down sometimes
(As a child I was really sickly. I had fevers so bad I went into convulsions twice. I only doubled my birth weight instead of trippled. I had ear infections constantly, would go on antibiotics and then get a yeast infection as soon as I was off. I suddenly developed a severe allergic reaction to penicillin when I was about 5, massive red hives and swelling for a week. Thankfully, my doctors removed my tonsils when I was 6 and the ear infections stopped.)

Points: 850.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 850.00 | Lichen Sclerosis It sucks a lot. Its a skin condition that can occur anywhere but most commonly found on vulvular skin. If its gets bad enough your vagina can actually fuse together. The condition often thins the skin and causes all kinds of problems. Some women have such skin thin using toilet paper when going to the restroom can cause tearing. Mine isn't so bad, but there's no cure and steroids are the only treatment (which if not careful can actually make the problem worse).
They're not sure why it happens but they thinks its some sort of autoimmune thing. Fun times, huh? |

Points: 101.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 101.00 | This is fascinating reading!! Danielle, thanks for posting such a relevant question... I was so surprised to read how many of us have Costrochondritis (aching pain in the ribs, rib cartilage, and intercostal muscles between ribs). I was dx with that almost a month after going off BCPs - the catalyst for this involuntary merry-go-round ride. LOL
So here's my list:
> Costrochondritis - acupuncture, stretching
> PCOS - BCPs (yasmin) for 5 weeks (Lord, I hope it stops the hair! lol), magnesium, B6, B12, Multi V&M, Low GI/carb, and loads of exercise
> 'Funny tummy' lol. I seem to have loads of different triggers depending on my stress levels...? At least that's all I can come up with anyway. I've never been tested for IBS and am not interested in getting tests either!
> Dairy allergies and hayfever - acupuncture (it's working a treat, too)
> Plus, interestingly, I have been having trouble with achy knees and I've also noticed that I clench my jaw...I'm sure I never used to do that!
Pretty bizarre how many of these issues we seem to share, isn't it?
Miss Elmo =) |
