Question SURVEY: What are your symtoms, thin cysters?

I guess someone has already asked the same question, but I would like to know…

Thin cysters, what are your symptoms and what are you diagnosed with? I am wondering if they are the same as what obese cysters have?

My symptoms are:
- No periods / few periods / unovulation / cystic ovaries (diagnosed)
- Depression, anxiety, occasionally panic attacts
- Fatigue
- Acne (much worse when off PCP)
- Hair lose / some grey hair
- IR (not diagnosed, but clear symptoms), addictions for carbs
- Hot flashes occasionally at night
- Dry eyes
- Low sex drive
- NORMAL weight
- diagnosed at age 25 (now 27)

I'm only diagnosed with PCO = cystic ovaries/unovulation. My sugar levels and blood preasure are fine.

What about you??

My symptoms are somewhat similar.

-I have frequent light bleeding when not on BCP. I don't even know if I could call that a period. Sometimes it flips and I have heavy bleeding and then no periods at all.
-depression
-fatigue when not watching my carbs
-acne
-hair loss when not watching my carbs
-IR (after my first baby)
-low sex drive
-pretty normal weight
-hirstuism
-polycystic ovaries
-TMJ (I know there is a connection!)

My weight I am losing now is from baby #2. Although if I don't watch carefully what I eat now, I can gain very quickly. This all seems to get worse as I age. (I am 31) After baby #1 the weight was fairly easy to lose, this time it was MUCH harder.

My blood sugar has been fine the past few times checked, but my diet has also been low in the sugar department, so I think that is a factor!

Good idea!

Lets see:

Lh:Fsh ratio of 3.55:1
total testosterone: 58
free testosterone: 12.5
insulin:7
MAJOR CARB ADDICTION: a constant battle, Met helped some, but Actos is helping much more than Met ever did
a few hairs on my upper lip & chin, which I pluck
irregular cycles: 21 days to 6 months pre-Met/Actos (now 21 to 35 days)
acne: I've battled this for 22 years and it is my biggest frustration
I HATE my skin!
classic string of pearls on u/s
annovulatory even on Met, not sure yet about Actos
poor egg quality
clomid resistant
TMJ
Migraines
Hyperhidrosis
Asthma

Sounds like I'm falling apart!

Default My Symptoms

Hello all! Suspecting PCOS since late college, I was finally diagnosed with PCOS in February of 2004 after a laparoscopy and had it confirmed with blood tests.

Symptoms:

--polycystic ovaries with cysts in the classical "string of pearls" configuration
--I have tons of hair so it isn't cosmetically apparent, but lose lots of hair when shampooing and grooming.
--normal weight 112 lbs and 5'7''
--elevated testosterone level
--regular ovulation and regular menstrual periods, but menstrual flow has lightened in the past few years and the duration has shortened by a few days.
--anxiety, panic attacks
--mood swings
--hot flashes
--low sex drive except within a week and half of the onset of period
--while I have only recently begun the blood testing, and thus have only had a fasting glucose level taken, I know that after years of living on 6-12 12 oz. Cokes daily, I must have some degree of insulin resistance, even if it is subclinical.
--dilating reticular veins in legs
--muscular tension
--TMJ/bruxism
--mild acne
--mild hirsutism (not very noticeable except in magnifying mirrors).
--slight "happy trail" hair growth below umbilicus.
--undiagnosed mass that appears to be associated with ovary on imaging, but is not visibly on ovary during surgery--I suspect a uterine fibroid.
--elevated total cholesterol, but very high HDL cholesterol too!

I am cutting down on alcohol, caffeine, high glycemic index carbohydrates. (Sparkling water does an amazing job of replicating the fizz of cola without adding all the nasty stuff.)

I am also cutting down on non-organic fruits and vegetables because pesticides physiologically mimic hormones in the body, further complicating the endocrine system.

I do not eat non-organic meats as antibiotics and hormones supplementation in cattle contributes to complicated hormonal and chemical processes.

I am increasing my fiber intake to slow the absorption of sugars, additives and cholesterol into my system.

Thus, we should do this again in a few months and see how everyone is progressing with their treatments.

Default I was always thin before having my kids

then everything hormonal wise went crazy. I knew something was abnormal though when I started gaining weight and could not lose an ounce. Here is a list when the PCOS was out of control.

Hair growth...I had enough hair for a man! Lip, stomach, and other places that I don't even want to mention...dark hair at that and I am blonde!

Extreme fatigue-brain fog...a horrible symptom for me. Insulin level fasting was normal but I can only imagine what it might have been if I had been testing with the glucose intake. I felt neurologically impaired with all that sugar. (Slow speech, moving slow and actually fell asleep during the surge of sugar that I was given to test for diabetes.) Wierd huh?

TMJ-I actually visited a specialist that does root canal's. I didn't have a tooth that needed one, it was the grinding causing it.

Weird Sleep Patterns-my heart would race and wake me and when I would wake up I felt like I was drugged. I had a very difficult time getting out bed three years ago. I thought I might have heart disease. My heart was doing very odd things. I had a stress test which was positive for something wrong, onto the angiogram which was normal. I think the hormones played a vital part in the stress test being abnormal. Intersting huh?

I am thrilled to say after three years on meds and the BCP's I feel good again. I am eating low sugar/low glycemic diet to keep things under control and HAVE to exercise. I realize that I will play a vital role in keeping my symptoms under control.

Blessings!

Candace

when dx I had:

- no cycles after going off BCP (no ovulation - of course)
- string of pearls on the ovary
- LH:FSH 3:1
- elevated testosterone
- male pattern body hair

These days:

- LH:FSH 1.2:1
- regular cycles with ovulation (though very affected by stress and diet)
- still the hair - but growing slower
- a weird reaction to suger (brain fog when to much, hypoglycemia when to little)

- father is a diabetic, with balding (who is also thin)
- late onset of menstruation
- weight gained goes to my belly, and not to my butt or hips

that's it. i don't have the classic string of pearls, but i do have cysts on my ovaries.

I was recently Dx and still wondering if there is more endocrine tests that need to be run but here are my symtems:

- 5 large/ruptured cysts in the past 6 months (never having
them before) but no "pearl strand" cysts
- enlarged left ovary
- acne
- LH/FSH ratio is around 2:1
- low progesterone
- endometriosis
- fibroid tumor on uterus
- mild facial hair
- anovulation (so we think)

I do have completely normal periods...textbook perfect
AND I have lost 25 pounds this year without a change in diet or exercise....I am concerned about the weight loss because I was already thin. I am over 5'9" and am barely weighing 130 anymore.

Hi. I'm new here, but not completely new to PCOS.

Last August, I was diagnosed with PCOS and I couldn't believe it. My doctor was very surprised, too. He put me on Metformin twice a day and I haven't been too great about taking it, mostly because I don't have most of the "tell tale" signs of PCOS and I was sort of in denial about it. Pretty much the only symptom I have is irregular periods that I assumed were caused by stress because they were normal up until about five years ago. I am 5'6," 125 pounds, and have never had a weight problem.

I am going to start taking control of this right away, because my husband and I wanted to start trying to get pregnant in about a year. Due to the amount of infertility problems I have read about, now I'm not sure it would be prudent to wait that long.

Is there anyone else out there that has had very few symptoms, like I have?

Hello... I'm new here as well....

annakron...
I was not diagnosed until I was 21 and that was becuase I demanded to know what was wrong with me! Like you, I don't have really any symptoms, although I know if I didn't exercise and watch what I eat I would gain a lot of weight. I think that us thin cysters aren't regarded as "real" PCOS patients, simply because we do not exhibit the usual symptoms. But I did have acne....

Two monts ago my new DR put me on 500mg daily of met. (I'm 5'6, 113lbs) and that has regulated me. I'm charting now to see if this is causing O Metformin can cause ovulation , and a return to normal AF... so being on met alone may help you get pg
