switch from clomid to femara...dpo23 spotting???

Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone has had the experience of switching from Clomid to Femara and had a shortened cycle/spotting on Femara. I have taken Clomid for the last 9 mths and had 9 BFNs. So my gyn decided to switch me to Femara and at 23dpo I started to experience some spotting (still have some today 25dpo). My gyn office told me to continue taking the prometrium until the end or whenever I have a day that seems more like a normal AF. Any comments or suggestions?????

you are 23 days post ovulation or on cycle day 23?

Sorry about that....day 23 of my cycle. I was at work and not paying attention fully to what short form I was using. I'm 9-10 dpo. From my u/s it looked like I ovulated an egg on both days this month.

My RE has decided to start me on Femara first before trying any other med. I have yet to start, will do so this month. I have been doing much research on this med as I always do before taking anything. I am expecting side effects but hoping they are minimized. My RE (appears to be very knowledgable and came highly recommended) is a fan of Femara.

I've read quite a bit now on Femara and I'm really hopeful. I had to push for it though. It looks like in the US they are much more proactive with this med. I have done 13 mths in total on the Clomid, all mostly ovulatory, and not even 1 BFP. When I started on the Puregon (FSH) injections 3 mths ago my gyn discussed the possibilty of taking either the Clomid or the Femara but kept prescribing me the Clomid. So by the third month I decided it was time to say something because we weren't getting anywhere and the costs where mounting. My gyn has been able to get me the Puregon free of charge from the pharamaceutical co. Unfortunately my insurance co. doesn't cover anything to do with fertility.

I actually originally took the Vitex when I first started on the Clomid so I had though perhaps that was affecting it once I found out about how it affects the hormones. I'm in the process now of switching naturopaths because the woman I was working with I don't think fully understands PCOS because she asked why I didn't want to continue with Vitex. I have found one now that seems to have quite a bit of experience with PCOS.

I'm on the fertility meds for another 3 mths and then I'm going natural. My gyn told me to continue with the prometrium even though I was spotting in case it was from implantation, but I think now it was maybe from switching the meds. Last night was my last prometrium pill so we will see if I get a full blown AF. If not I'm just going to wait until I get AF on my own (they wanted to induce it otherwise).

Let me know how the Femara goes for you. I really hope it works quickly for you. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this next month is it for both of us. I also have to do the Puregon injections this month

I would really like to know the answer when you get one! I started Femara this cycle after 5 rounds of Clomid. I am on CD30 and I started spotting this morning. I normally have a 32-34 day cycle. I keep hearing that Femara usually extends your cycle. So, I was prepared to be late. I started spotting this morning and I was hoping for the best. Pretty much quit after lunch. I would really like to know if anyone else has experienced the same issues!

Hi Jessica,

Sorry for the long delay. I have been taking a break from everything and did not notice your reply. I hope either you have had some good news or you had better luck than me. I continued to spot for over 3 weeks. No explanation could be provided. I was told just to wait it out. That is when I decided to take a long needed break. This whole fertility process been going on for over 2 years now. I decided to try out traditional chinese medicine, after some research and some advice from a co-worker, and I am now undergoing some treatment with the TCM doctor. I am on my second month and have ovualted almost on time (at least in the last 10 years) for the first time without the use of prescription medication. This was confirmed when I went to see my gyn (the appt was made ages ago) which just happened to correspond with my cycle and at day 15 there was one follicle almost ready to go. I should say I am using acupuncture once a week and I take some herbs for a couple of days here and there as the TCM dr recommends during my cycle.

As I can see and have been through, I think this process is so unique to each and everyone of us. Do what you feel best with and never worry about second guessing what you are being told. I decided to try to treat my whole system and get my body functioning on it's own (which is the basic principle of TCM) instead of focusing on 'infertility' treatments but you have to pick what works best for you. I wish you the best of luck and if you are not pregnant yet, I hope you will be in the very near future.

This is the second month of Femera for me, and last month my cycle was a little bit shorter by about 3-4 days.

That is interesting. I wonder if I just stuck with it if it would have been better the next month. It so hard to know with all of this stuff. But the 3 weeks of fairly heavy spotting really drained me. I hope you have some good news this cycle!
