But WHY does Hypo cause swollen feet/ankles, is there a specific reason?

My Mood: Points: 2,893.40 Bank: 17,490.76 Total Points: 20,384.15 | When you are hypothryoid, your body works much slower. This means that your heart rate will be lower, food will move slower thru your digestive track (sometimes causing constipation if you are severly hypo over a period of time), your body temp will be lower, etc. This also means that fluids aren't absorbed into your body as quickly and aren't moved around as much. When I go off my Synthroid for my annual thyca scan, I get severly hypo (TSH well over 100) and VERY puffy. I feel like the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man! And my neck where I have just a cople lymph nodes left gets quite swollen because fluid isn't draining at a normal rate.
I personally believe that there are some symptoms that never go away even if you are treated properly for hypothyroidism. My TSH is kept below 0.1 to keep cancer at bay, but I am almost always cold. With a TSH at that level I should be warm or hot.

But I still get swollen feet, ankles and hands, just not as bad. Of course I haven't been on the treatment long so I'm hoping that will get better with time. The reduced puffiness was the first symptom I noticed dissipating after I began treatment.

I've always had issues with swollen feet and ankles long before my TSH ranges went out of normal range.
I just assumed it was because I'm overweight.

My Mood: Points: 5,244.99 Bank: 4,092.30 Total Points: 9,337.29 | I am heavy. I always assumed the swelling was from that as well. Guess what though? My hands no longer swell and my feet only minimally swell now since the last post I put here! My doc says a lot of it has to do with the EPA/DHA (pharmaceutical grade fish oils) that I take. It causes extracellular water to decrease and intracellular water to increase (something he tests me for at every appointment - it does keep getting better).
