Default Sydney Doctors!

Hi (Aussie) Cysters,

I'm new to the site, but far from a noob with PCOS. I was diagnosed about 3 years ago and since that time i have done nothing to address the symptoms, apart from plucking incessantly at my face, lol.

So, i was wondering if any of my fellow syd cysters would be able to recommend a GP that is PCOS friendly. I dont really mind where in Syd, i would travel extensively to find a dr that doesn't just leave me with the usual;
"Your overweight, stop eatling less and you will get better" routine, becaue frankly the next dr to tell me that will get punched in the face (must be the extra testosterone kicking in, lol)

Thanks in advance for reading and i hope one of you will be able to point me in the direction of a good doctor, and im sure one of you will because i can see from my extensive lurking on this site, that you are all intelligent and wonderful women.

Isabella (Izzy)

p.s- I'm a 20 year old student from Syd who, as of the 17th of Jan 06, will start living a new and healthy life *heads towards diet forum*

Hi Izzy,
Welcome to SC! I'm also from Sydney, but I'm sorry to say I haven't managed to find a GP that is PCOS friendly... I have heard good things about an Edocrinologist, Dr Warren Kidson who practices in various parts of Sydney, but I haven't seen him myself.

I hope some of the other Sydney girls can steer you in the right direction, and I look forward to seeing you around!

Sorry, I can't help you with a GP either. I was treated by a naturopath who specialises in PCOS. You can check out her website if you like - www.sensible-alternative.com.au

She is great - very sympathetic, motivating, realistic. She is Canadian and they basically have to qualify as docs to be naturopaths. She ran a lot of blood work on me so she knew exactly what she was dealing with.

She has been the only health care professional that I have seen that has known what blood tests to run. The GP's I have seen I fumbling around with text books. When I fell pg (after being treated by this naturopath) my GP told me I mustn't have PCOS as I conceived. Urgh.

If a naturopath isn't your thing, I have also heard great things about Warren Kidson. But I have also heard he is strict about weight loss first as a treatment.

Good luck and let us know how you go.

Cheers,
Brooke
