I have read that estrogen can have an effect on thyroid hormone levels. When women are on the BCP, do their thyroid medication dosages tend to increase?

If I went off of the BCP my testosterone would increase. Does anyone know how this might affect my thyroid meds?

Estrogen binds thyroid hormone, and usually requires an increase in thyroid meds. I don't know if/how testesterone effects thyroid. Progesterone increases thyroid function, which usually requires a decrease in thyroid meds. Hopefully your doc is aware of these hormone interactions and will watch you carefully and adjust as necessary.

Come to think of it...I was on a higher dosage of synthroid when I was on bcp. Check with your dr. and see if he/she is aware that you are on bcp.

My doctor said you are supposed to have a higher dosage of synthroid if you are on bc. She was also careful to find out which birth control I was on because she was kind of picky about what I was put on. I like her cause she is so picky and she's not afraid to be rude to make sure things are done right.
