I just found out about a program my mail-order pharmacy has with the makers of Synthroid. Check it out because your provider may have it too!
* Have your doctor write your script for SYNTHROID. However, make sure she DOESN'T write DAW (dispense as written.)
* Thanks to a partnership with the pharmacy and the makers of Synthroid, the pharmacy (Caremark) will ship name brand Synthroid and charge me the GENERIC price.
Because my particular plan is so crappy, this means a significant savings, $17 instead of $60!
Make sure your doctor DOES NOT write the prescription for the generic, because if she does, this is exactly what you will get. And if she writes DAW you will pay the full name brand co-pay.
Apparently the makers of synthroid are trying to remove the financial incentive to switch to Levo.
Pharmacy recommends that we double-check before filling the script to make sure the program is still in place.

That is a good program...but just a warning. Synthroid doesn't play well with heat, so orders in the summer time can sometimes cause your Synthoid to degrade (when it is in the hot mail truck and your hot mail box).

Well, it would be nice if I had that luxury. Unfortunately, I do not have that choice. My prescription coverage literally will not allow you to use a pharmacy more than once for the same script! We can only use a real pharmacy for, say, a 30 day supply of antibiotics or a 30 day trial of a new dose of a med. After that, we MUST mail it!
OR ... we can pay $200 at the pharmacy without our insurance! Or get the generic for $4.
My doc doesn't want me on generic synthroid, so I'll take what I can get. I'm just happy to be back on my meds after a year of avoiding them!

How much Synthroid are you getting at one go? My insurance does not cover Synthroid...so the brand name synthroid is 24.99...for the past two years...at every pharmacy I go to. That's for 20 days.
When you do mail-order, you have to get a 90 day supply. For me, that's actually 96 pills, since they want me to split one of them in half one day a week. If they'd let me take generic, I could get it for $12 through the $4 plan. So for only $5 more, I get the name brand.
