Does anyone notice being more irritable since starting synthroid? I just started on it last week 0.0112 mcg and I have had a few days where I felt really irritable.
112 mcg is a high dose to start with. :o No wonder you feel irritable, you probably are feeling kinda hyper. It should level out eventually but expect to feel weird for the next month or two.

Thanks for the info! I notice you are on Armour Thyroid and Levoxyl? Were you ever on synthroid? Have you had a positive experience with the Armour/Levoxyly combo?
No I was never on synthroid. I don't trust it personally due to its long history of doseage inconsistencies. It took a long time to get FDA approved because batches would be inconsistent strengths and were not reliable.
I also have trouble with the company on principle. It supports a lot of one-sided research which denies the need for T3 supplementation. The company also has some pretty shady practices where they market their products by sending doctors on paid vacations etc. I think the company has done a lot of harm to thyroid research by denying the need for T3 therapy.
There are reports out that show that thyroid sufferers on a whole today receive lower doses of medication than they did 50 years ago, and do not do as well on treatment. There are also new studies showing that without T3 therapy the majority of thyroid patients will remain ill enough to have increased risks of heart disease, arthritis and many other problems.
That being said I know that some people do well on T4 alone but I'm not willing to risk it myself.
Armour thyroid has a T4/T3 ratio of approx. 80/20. It is theorized that the human body's natural ratio is 90/10, so some supplementation with additional T4 can be beneficial. I have found that without some additional T4 I tend to remain a little hypo. If I just raised the armour I would get headaches in my eyes etc. which are signs of me having too much T3.
Some people have a true need for a lot of T3 because their bodies don't convert well. Your body is supposed to convert T4 to T3, which is the active form. Some patients have trouble doing this or do it wrong, creating Reverse T3 or RT3 which does not do the job.

I am also on a combination of Armour/and unfortunately Synthroid, but feel 100% better than I did when I was on Synthroid and Cytomel.
Armour hits my system so much easier than Synthroid ever did. The only reason I am taking it now is because I already had it. I take 2 grains of Armour and my T3 is ok, but my T4 is a little low. I take 50 mcg Synthroid to bring it up instead of taking more Armour and going hyper.
My first Endo. believed in Armour, but unfortunately would not test Free numbers, so I switched to a new Endo. who does not believe in Armour (but will let me stay on it), but does all the right testing. GO FIGURE!!!! I pretty much do my own thing. I have even gone as far as to order my own testing through healtheckusa and dose myself. I got sick of fighting these Doctors to do the right things for me.
Even now, my Free numbers are below mid-line, but my TSH is sitting at .01. My Endo. is looking at pituitary problems.....when will it ever stop?
