I'm wondering how many suspected they had Thyroid Problems but had to have repeated tests taken to finally obtain a diagnoses?
I had PCOS syptoms for 5 years having Dr.'s tell me nothing was wrong until finally their tests picked up the cysts. I have really been feeling crappy lately. Very tired, lethargic, anxious, cloudy, slightly irritable, burning eyes, headachy, kinda naseous and depressed. All around , I just don't feel good. Anti-depressants don't seem to help. My dad and grandmother both have Thyroid trouble and think that is a part of my problem. Just wondering who else can relate.
I can SOOO relate. EVERY single female on my mothers side has hypothyroidism, and my dads mother has hyper. I keep getting tested but they always say I'm within the high end of normal and refuse to treat me. Now that they've changed the guidelines to .3-3 I'm going to ask to be retested and hopefully treated. I have a lot of the symptoms you mentioned and I just think I would feel better once treated.

I knew I was Hypo before I even knew I had PCOS. We are learning that it runs in the family. Joy what fun whammy from both sides Just keep having yourself tested. My sister was never Hypo until after she had my niece. Keep at it.
Is there a list of complete symptoms somewhere? I've been wondering about this in myself recently, since I have many of the ones mentioned. I just thought it was related to being insulin resistant. Any extra info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Dani: Yes, I can relate. I had symptoms of thyroid disease and PCOS all the way from puberty but was not diagnosed with PCOS until I was 21, and it was a poo-poo diagnosis (the nurse handwaved it and put me on bcps, I had no idea what pcos was and had no idea I should be concerned). I didn't find out about the thyroid disease until I was 24, at which time the doctor also mentioned the PCOS in more detail and I finally realized it was a serious condition and needed real treatment. Then I had to hunt around for good doctors and went through several before I could find ones who would treat me. At the time my thyroid had gotten very sick due to BCP withdrawal and I was in some serious suffering that caused me to be diagnosed with sleep apnea. It was a mess. Even with a TSH that fluctuated between 0.004 to 25.16, the doctors I'd been seeing seemed unconcerned.
Fairyflies: There is a thyroid textbook at http://www.thyroidmanager.org/ which has a section on adult hypothyroidism. They explain it pretty well there what all the symptoms could be. It's a little cerebral (in the way of textbooks) so if there are any sections you don't understand post it here and I'll be happy to translate.

I didnt even know I had a low thyroid. I went to get a physical for insurance purposes, and when the bloodwork came back, it shows I had a high TSH. I had no idea. I had the sypmtoms: tired, irritable, dry skin (espically the hands), depressed, of which I dismissed because I thought it was due to stress. And after reading the symptoms for PCOS..its similair in some ways. I was having problems with my cycle and my doc said while we are waiting for your TSH to get in range, let me test you for PCOS ( DHEA). My DHEA was high that confirmed the PCOS. Again, had no idea this was happening, and never heard of PCOS. I wished there was more ackonwledgment for PCOS. The last tests I had was to see if I was IR. The good news is that the GTT test I had, ALL came back within normal range. Not to say it couldnt happen though as I am overweight.
I KNEW my thyroid was not right. You just dont feel right when its not in range. One of the signs for me is " brain fog". Sure enough with the GTT ny doc did another TSH and my synthroid had to be bumped up (after she thought I was stable) and I have to test again in 6wks.
