My doctor upped my dosage of Met to 1500 mg last year for a while. (Actually, what he said was to take as much as I could handle.) I just could not live with the GI side effects even though I knew it was probably doing me more good, and I ended up skipping it altogether a lot of the time. He told me to go ahead and decrease the dosage to 1000 mg since I didn't tolerate 1500 mg well. Do you think it's ok if I occassionally take the extra 500 mg (like when I know I'll be home all day and it won't be an issue), or would that even be worth it? Would being inconsistent like that throw my body off? Maybe it would be better if I consistently upped the dose, say, one time a week at first? I might even get adjusted to a higher dose over time doing it that way. I hate to be taking less than he thought was ideal, but I just can't do it all the time if I want to have a normal life.
Whew! That was a lot of questions. What does everybody think?

My intestines are TOTALLY envying you at the moment!
No joke! I go through toilet paper like crazy! By the way, thanks for your input earlier. I do think I'm going to start taking 1500 mg once a week and see how that works out.

Diamond:
I've noticed constipation issues also but I attributed it to the Vitex. I was taking tincture for ~month w/o any change in stools. When I started met was about the time I changed to Vitex capsules. I've seriously considered getting some metamucil to soften things up before I get hemeroids!
NOTE: I'm only on 500 mg met. I assume the runs will start if I up the dosage, possibly in a couple weeks.
