I am confused. I have been on Met for almost a year and just got back lab results that show I am still highly Insulin Resistant. Is the Met supposed to make us non resistant? Has the past year been useless since my insulin is still up? I am to see an Endo next week and would appreciate some help understanding this before I see him. Also what specific questions should I be asking? I have taken my Met (1700mg) religiously and diet and exercise. What, if anything, has worked for you ladies to combat the IR?
Thanks for your help!
Maybe that does isnt workingt for you. You can go as high as 2500 mg a day. Also they could add avandia to the met which could help but probably you just nead a higher dose of met.

Wendy, did you take Met on the morning of your test?

I did take my Met the morning of the test- Do you think that was okay? I guess I will see what the Endo has to say. I really don't think I can tolerate more than 1700mg a day! Part of it is my own fault- I started Met thinking it was a miracle drug :p
I just thought that if you hadn't taken the Met the morning of the test, then the results wouldn't truly reflect how Met is controlling your IR. But since you did, then it sounds like you still have a battle ahead of you to control the IR. If you are doing all you can with diet and exercise, you might want to try taking cinnamon. Cinnamon not only lowers blood sugar, but it has been shown to actually decrease insulin resistance as well. I've been taking it for over a year now and it has helped to keep my blood sugar levels in non-diabetic range (I have been on 2000 mg of Met for almost 4 years, and my morning blood sugars were inching up so I decided to add the cinnamon). If you're interested in reading some research about cinnamon I'd be happy to post some for you.

Nobimbo,
Forgive me if I sound stupid, but how do you take cinnamon? I woud be very interested in learning about this if it does help. I have tried everything my doctor has suggested and I am willing to try anything at this point! Thanks for your help!
met did nothing much for my insulin levels but adding 4mg avandia to the dose worked wonders
