Question Taking Met w Food...HELP!!

I was just reading a post about taking Met. with food. I'm just a bit confused as to whether it's better to take it with food or better to take it on an empty stomach?? I take 1 pill after each meal. Is that why it isn't working for me???? Help!!

My bottle of met says to take with food, but I'm sure that's because it helps to limit bowel side effects. However, I have read that it is most effective to take it on an empty stomach. I think once you have been on it awhile and the side effects dissipate, you might want to try taking it on an empty stomach and see if it works better for you.

My endo suggested that I take it 30 minutes after I eat, so that way it helps with the side effects but my stomach isn't completely full.

How long have you been on it? I was on 1500 mgs for 5 months before I saw any results.

are you taking regular glucophage or glucophage XR? the reason why I ask is if you are taking glucophage XR you can take ALL your pills before bedtime, that's what my doc. told me, because it is extended. I take mine at bed time and have no side effects from it, but I have also been on it for close to a year.

I am very interested in this, I am constantly forgetting my pills after meals. I would like to take them in the morning when I wake up with some other meds but was afraid to. I didn't know if my blood sugar might go all wonky if I took it on an empty stomach.
