Default Taking Met. W/O RX

Has anyone taken Met. without a RX from a doctor?

My doctor hasn't mentioned taking MET...but I hear all sorts of good success stories from Met and want to try it.

Is there a place on the internet to buy Met w/o a Rx?

Hmmm, it surprises me that your doctor hasn't pursued the Met option, especially since I see you've had several Clomid cycles. Have you ever brought it up directly?

To tell you the truth, I thought about just ordering Met on my own, because I was too lazy to make the phone call to talk to my doctor, and it was 2.5 months for an appointment! Lazy, lazy me! In the end, it just took a phone call and he prescribed it over the phone, which is good, since then it was covered by my insurance, even though the retail price is only $6 a month.

Here's the only pharmacy I've ever heard of for ordering (that doesn't mean that there aren't others):

http://www.medsmex.com/store/search....=search&page=1

I haven't tried it myself, but I know of others who have.

I couldn't find a doctor initiatially that would rx met (and that was the med I was set on starting) so I ordered off medsmex and started it myself and it went fine. I have since found an OBGYN who prescribed it. I told him about the mexican ones I ordered. He didn't seem all that concerned but mentioned that the dosing may be different in different countries...like their 500mg tab could be a bit weaker or stronger than ours.

Thanks! I think I'm goin to try ordering online. Is it expensive?

My doctor would prescribe it over the phone, but she doesn't seem thrilled that it even does anything.

Will Met. make my body react better to Clomid or Femara or something?

Hi Rachel- I would work my way up to 1500, upping the dose in increments of 500. Then if it doesn't regulate AF you can go up to 2000. And yes, the combo of met and clomid has good success rates. That is the direction I am trying. There are studies and I will try to look up some of the links for you later sweetie. Good luck and PM me anytime for more details.

My doc has me checked every 4 months for blood sugar and liver issues, as both are concerns with Met. Ordering a prescription drug, as a US citizen, from an online pharmacy w/o a prescription is illegal.

Why not just ASK your doctor? It's 4 freaking dollars for a month's supply at any target or walmart. There's no need to resort to shady internet companies and illegally ordering drugs. a) you don't know what you're getting, or what quality you're getting. Could be horse pills---remember, they're not regulated, they're ILLEGAL. b) If something happens to you, I doubt your insurance would cover it---illegally taking prescription meds seems like something they'd LOVE to deny as a claim. c) You don't know what drug interactions might be problematic, and your doc probably won't let you take ANYTHING since he can't be sure what you're REALLY getting from your online pharmacy. And if you don't tell your doc, you're in an even worse position.

Bah. You ladies should know better.

If your doctor is agreeable to prescribing over the phone, even, I would go that route.

It will save you money and probably time.

If your doctor will prescribe it, why would you want to order it online? My insurance company covers the generic 100 percent, so I don't pay anything for it. And even if you don't have prescription coverage, it's only $4 - $6 per month.

The Met/Clomid combo worked for me (I got pregnant on my first cycle of that). I am only at 1000 mg per day, and that has worked well for me, and has regulated my cycles.

Yeah, if you can get it from a doc, do that. I only ordered online b/c I couldn't find a doc to rx it for me inititally (b/c I don't test as IR). I was so set on starting it though and am pretty much willing to break the law to get pg!!! As mentioned it is $4 at walmart or target if you get the regular version and not the ER. Medsmex is more than that and it takes weeks to arrive. Although it does come in safe, official (the foil pouches you poke the pills through) packaging, just labelled in Spanish. I have much less side effects with the ER but it is more $$$. My doc does not do any blood monitoring for the met. It is a very safe drug as long as you have no history of liver issues. For the record I don't think insurance would deny you from complications from this, because they cover treatment for overdoses on illegal drugs all the time.

PLEASE don't listen to this poster, ladies. What she is advocating is both illegal and dangerous. Even FDA-monitored American pill distribution can go wrong---look at the Lovenox and Digoxin fiascos in the last year!! Do NOT risk your health with "Mexican" pills that have NO regulations or oversight up to American standards, from companies that are already willing to break the law to give them to you!

Saying that "oh, Met's fine, unless you have liver problems already" discounts the small percentage of women that have liver problems CAUSED by Met. Yes, it may be a small percent. But they exist, and since I don't hear you claiming to be a board-certified physican, I don't think you're in any place to say that Met is safe for everyone. There's a reason many doctors require bloodwork first!!

From a SELF magazine article:
"Drug maker Pfizer discovered Latin American Counterfeiters copying one of its products with boric
