As it says on my Synthroid (levothyroxine) label, I have to wait at least two hours to eat after I've taken my Synthroid, or one hour before a meal. This was a pain in the morning because I always want to eat first thing in the morning due to IR. Now that I am trying to eat at least every three hours to keep my insulin regulated, this makes it hard to figure out when to take the darn thing. I have finally started taking it before I go to bed. I at first worried it would wake me up, but that hasn't been the case. I've been on Synthroid for ten years and I'm just now figuring out to also not eat it close to calcium. The things you learn with time!
How do you take it?

I take mine first thing in the morning too. I am usually up at 6am. On the weekends I set my alarm and take my meds. I get up sometimes, other times I just go back to bed. My doctor told me that consistencey is the key to maintaining good levels.

Counting the days until my husband comes home from Afghanistan, December 4th at 8:33pm, but hey who's counting?!
I take my Cal/Mag in the evening to help me sleep. Then my thyroid in the morning 1/2 before eating. My pharmist said it only takes 30 minutes for it not to effected by your food intake. Then the rest of my vitamins I take with my breakfast.

I don't take my calcium until lunchtime. Its at least four hours after I take the thyroid medicine. I get my TSH level results this Friday, so I should know if the medication is working as it should.

I eat breakfast cereal (Life) w/milk almost every day. I don't worry about the calcium interfering because the medicine should be all absorbed before the calcium starts working. Also, consistency is indeed the key. I have the milk almost every morning, so my meds are pretty setup for that.

Shencat, see I drink my skim milk with my cheerios every morning, so that is why I was worried. Now seeing that so many of you don't have a problem with it, and eat at least an hour after taking it, I'll stop my worrying. I am a worrywart! LOL!

Funny that I'm reading this thread while I'm waiting out the last ten minutes before I can eat breakfast!
I take my synthroid an hour before breakfast. And when I'm a good girl and remember to take my vitamins, I take them before bed. I'm wondering if it matters what your dosage is in the length of time before eating? I've always waited an hour and I take 0.112 mg.
I didn't know about the calcium thing...thanks for the link Maren!

You are more than welcome for the link. There were several more that I found through Google, so that is why I was concerned. I take .150 so I also wonder if dosage could be a factor.
