Ok, for those of you who have gotten inked, did you experience acne in and around the area of your tattoo afterwords?
I was told it would be itchy as the scabbing healed and flaked off, however that's not what is itchy to me. I have noticed some acne around the tattoo and extremely close to it that has been itchy to me.
Did anyone else have this problem?

I didn't experience what you described and I don't recall my husband or BIL having this either. Is it possible you are having a mild allergic reaction to either the ink or whatever you are using to keep it moist (A&D ointment, etc.)?

I can't remember the kind of moisterizer he gave me for it. But I think my Mom brought up a good point. I am starting to get psoriasis (which unfortunately is in heirited - thanks mom!), I am thinking maybe it was "undo stress" on my body and caused a reaction.
I will have to ask my doc the next time I see him. All I know is, it's driving me nuts. They are going away as my tattoo is healing tho which is good.

Sounds like an allergic reaction to the ointment. Do NOT use neosporin or A&D ointment, as the neosporin causes an allergic reaction, and the ointment can cause the color to bleed out and clog pores. Wash with warm water and a mild antibacterial soap. Use bacitracin ointment for a bit, (about 3 days) and then lubriderm, cetaphil or CUREL FRAGRANCE FREE (or other mild, scent free, additive free) lotion.
I don't use the neosporin so I am good there. He gave me Curel ointment to last a couple weeks.

I don't use the neosporin so I am good there. He gave me Curel ointment to last a couple weeks.
A&D ointment is baby butt cream... basically vaseline with vitamins in it.
If the rash doesn't clear up, try putting a thin smear of bacitracin ointment (found near the bandaides) on it for a few days.

I have 3 myself. I never experienced acne near any of them while they were healing. Others have brought up good suggestions though, the shaving (if it was done) could have caused a bit of razor burn which can end up looking like very tiny pimples or the cream/ointment you are using on it is causing it. Also, are you sure you don't have a latex sensitivity? I'm HOPING the person who did it wore gloves and if they did they may have been latex based.

LATEX!!! Why didn't I think of that! I honeslty didn't even ask. I do have a latex allergy! Thanks for all the suggestions ladies. while it's still abit itchy the bumps are slowly disappearing!

I just got my first tattoo last week, and i have some itchy areas, no acne though, i use Kerri-unsenting quick absorbant cream, its great, mine has a bit of dry skin, but other than that i had a good experience! What tattoo did you get??

Meaning:
My dad was a trucker his whole like and his favourite brand of semi truck was a Western Star. It's logo was the one I chose to get but I got it modified to suit my meaning more. My family last name begins with a "W" and instead of a 5 pointed star I used a four pointed star, aslso called an Elven Star. Yellow is my dad's favourite colour. The Red dot in the middle is a RED RUBY that signifies his birthstone as he was born in July. The red CL lettering are his first and middle initials and then the dates are his birth and death dates.
ETA: When I went in for my touch-up 3 weeks after I got the star coloured more yellow. So it's brighter now then when this picture was taken right after I had gotten it done.
I am so glad that I got this tattoo, it means alot to me. I am hoping to get one for my Mom in September. She has been a cancer survivor for over 20 years now. I want to get a memorial for her and her jounrey that shr's taken so far in life.

Tattoo's & Acne 
Did they shave the area by any chance as a prep? Could it just be ingrown hairs?
