Default Teen with PCOS and starting YAZ

My 17 yr old has just recently been diagnosed. Complete blood work up, ultrasound. After reviewing all the problems she has been having and going over all the treatment options best for her at this time, GYN Nurse practioner has started her on YAZ. She has the abnormal hair growth, slight acne, and has had 2 periods in a row with heavy and long bleeding after having irregular periods. NP listened carefully to her and we decided to start the YAZ. Daughter is leaving for Camp as a counselor for 2 weeks. The plan is to start glucaphage after she returns from camp and has done OK with the YAZ. Any thoughts on this plan? Keep in mind she is 17, and not sexually active.

The np prob. wants her to start yaz to help her w/ her cycles. I had a lot of these issues when I was younger and that's what they did. But I never found a bcp that worked well enough for me. The gluc will help treat the underlying issues which are causing the hair growth and stuff. Hope this helps.

Can't wait to start WW again and loose the other 15lbs I gained with the last pregnancy and the 30lbs I still needed to lose with the first one.

I was diagnosed at 17 as well and went through a very simular situation... just keep in mind that your daughter might end up having side effects/break through bleeding at camp! I had problems when I did the same things and it took awhile to find a bcp that I could tolerate. Gluc was very very hard for my body to tolerate... I also wasn't sexually active.

Some symptoms of BCPs can be kinda rough when I first started up onto Ortho-Tri I had migranes and morning sickness... but lots of people don't have problems... just a few things to keep in mind... its hard to deal with side effects, especially away from home and having to take care of other kids... Feel free contact me! I've been there!
