Default Terrible Period Pain!

Hey girls,
Just wondering if anyone gets really bad period pain? I always have had it and it leaves me bedridden for 3-5days with a heat pack on me. I cant seem to find any meds that work for me - I've tried all the standard period pain and general ones. Does anyone have any meds suggestions or natural remedies that might help?

Thanks in advance
Licia

The birth control I was taking would have me in the same situation. When I got off it, my periods stopped and I had no pain. Even when I'm induced with Provera I don't get the pain like I did have.

I would just load up on Midol and others like it and take 3-4 pills a day. Bad for you but it got me through it.

If you're on birth control it may be causing the same thing for you.

aww i used to be like that before i had a mirena ius fitted - it's why i had one.Anyway, before that i would be like you - in bed for days - in agony with terrible pain. My gp gave me Co-Proxamol pain killers which would take the edge off it. And a hot water bottle. Hope you find something that works foryou soon. pm me if you want

If your going the natural route...Lydia Pinkman Vitamins, I've been told, have helped...but you have to take at least 6 a day, starting on day 1 of your period. Not sure if they will help, but it's worth a try. You can find them at Walgreens....very small bottle.

I have been converted to using menstrual cups instead of tampons and pads. Doing some research on it I read that some women experienced lessening of their period pains... maybe because there are chemicals in the tampons or tampons dry up all the vaginal fluid and that makes the pain worse? I used to have medium pain, like I would have to be on ibuprofin for 2 days of my period to function well... now I have no pains whatsoever, its awesome.
Give the menstrual cup a try for a few of your periods and see if it helps with the pain. Check a natural lifestyle type of store, or find a website to order one. Good luck.

Cups? I never heard of those, do you have a link?

I frequently hurt real bad inserting a tampon by the 3rd or 4th day. It just gets very painful for me but once it's in it's fine. It's not when I'm dry either, so who knows.

Default Flurbiprofen

I have really bad cramps for about 3 or 4 days. Nothing ever works. The only OTC thing that's helped out a little bit, is Aleve. Even that takes an hour+ to work and only lasts 2-4 hours at most(depending on how bad the cramps are), and you can't take it but every 12 hours.
The only prescription I have ever found to work, was something called Flurbiprofen. It was not MY prescription; my grandmother got it for arthritis. This website says that it is an NSAID, which is helpful with menstrual cramps, among many other things. So seeing that you are in such pain every month, it may be possible to get a doctor to prescribe it to you. If that is the case, then I highly suggest you give it a try. It works wonders. 30 min after I take it, I don't feel sick anymore(the pain makes me nauseous), my headache goes away and I can get up and walk around pain free for 6-8 hours. I usually take another about an hour before the pill's supposed to wear off. I am unable to get them from my grandmother anymore, but now that I know that it is used for other things besides arthritis, I'm thinking about asking my doctor if he can give me a script for it. Thanks for making me look it up.

This has happened to me for my last few peroids. I lay in bed, or on the couch for a few days with water and a heatin pad. I rarely take anything for it, since i am a nut that way, and dont like to take too many meds. I use to be like this beforei had kids too. I started my peroid when i was 9 and i had to miss school for it.

I hope you find something to help you out with this. I know alot of women say their period controls their lives, but i know when it is bad like this, it truely does..

Thanks for the replies girls! I will certainly go back to my GP and see what she can prescribe me for them... It is very true that our periods control our lives! Mine is over this month now so I'm feeling great again

Cheers!

i'm right with you on this one, before I went on Metformin my periods were so [ainful I spent most of my time bedridden and in tears. I ended up on Buscopan, a drug used for ibs. it worked brilliantly but unfortunately you can only take one every 8 hours and they wear off fast. Now that i'm on Met, my periods aren't that painful at all... it's odd...

Excrutiating pain is never normal, get your doctor to admit you to a specalist.. noone should have to live their lives dictated to by their period and relient on pain medication

Hi aliciamac,

I suffer with painful periods for 20 yrs. I'm 30 now. Before I was diagnosed with PCOS, my gyno told me to take motrin 2 wks before my cycle so the meds will be already in my system. It helped me alot.

Smile Re: Terrible Period Pain

I hear ya on that one! Every month, TERRIBLE cramps, my legs hurt, my lower back hurts.. Everything hurts.. As if bleeding wasn't enough torture!

The only thing that helps me, Pamprin. I'd take multi-symptom, maximum strength. It works really good for me. I'd also use a heating pad on my lower abdomen. Staying warm also helps, even if I couldn't stay home its good to stay warm. Personally for me, Chocolate and milk make the bleeding AND cramps WAY WORSE.. not fun.. So, I'd keep an eye on your diet and see if things help you feel better, or worse...

Also, stay AWAY from ibuprofen during your period, its a blood thinner and will make your bleeding worse.

Good Luck!
