I don't have classic PCOS with IR and a lot of weight gain. I have normal BMI, pretty regular periods, but I do have acne, alopecia and a lot of hair growth on my legs. When my doctor checked my hormones, everything was normal except my total T. It was at 89 and the highest normal level is supposed to be 76. Is this extremely elevated? Why are my ovaries over producing testosterone if I don't have an insulin problem?
The tests for Insulin Resistance are not always accurate.
If you are losing hair and have extra hairy legs (like me) and I have the nice chin hair as well - you definately have higher than normal Free Testosterone - what ever the reason...
I would say you do have IR but maybe not badly and it has not shown up in a test. If you put on weight at any point I nearly guarantee if they tested you again say with a Glucose Tolerance TEst you would test positive or high normal indicating you would probably benefit from metformin.
Im new in here and was brousing when I read your post. I too was told my blood work showed me back into a normal range and that meant my testosterone levels too. Come to find out he ran (endo) what I like to call the standard test and not the one for free testosterone. His remark was when I asked why that and not the one I asked for was that its not as accurate as what he chose. Reason I think its high is that I still deal with hair loss rather than growth. And my tummy bulge is still too big. Ive read where if your tummy protrudes and you are loosing hair that's its a sign of free testosterone levels elivated. I dont know what to believe or try anymore for there is so much online that's its confusing at best. But if you here of any natural supplements that might lower it let me know okay..
