Yes! My periods have always been normal, but I had a full beard and was losing handfuls of hair daily prior to dx. While I have a "few" cysts, my ovaries were never the characteristic "string of pearls" that defines pcos.

My endo diagnosed me officially with Insulin Resistance and prescribed Glucophage for me. She said she would definitely put me in the category of women with pcos. Because its a syndrome, its normal to have some but not all symptoms.

As an aside, I have read that 30% of women with pcos don't have cysts.

HTH!

Jennifer,
The only time I have ever had regular periods was for about a year and a half after my ovarian surgery, I'm on birth control, ha ha, to keep me regular, but I do have some insights for you.

My endo told me that I probably never ovulated in my life before treatment, I had periods though. He told me that the period was just a reaction to the build up of hormones. You have a lot of the symptoms of PCOS so I would believe your endo, he has more training in this area.

BTW, I told my gyno in 1996 I thought I had PCOS after reading an article about it. He said, "Yeah, I diagnosed you with that last year." He never bothered to tell me about what I had and what I could do for it! I was so mad, I quit going to him!

I wish you luck.

You have it. And, your doctor is an idiot Sorry, but its true. Your testosterone is NOT normal! Normal is 6-86 but over 50 is considered elevated. Mine was 99! I think even high end of normal is NOT normal, especially since you have all the symptoms. Sometimes, my periods are sort of regular and it doesnt mean that I dont have PCOS. I would have him do an ultrasound to see if he can see cysts (or better yet, change doctors). That's how I found out. Most of my blood work was normal but when he did a cervical ultrasound--he found a tribillion cysts. It made me feel better to see it with my own eyes.

Thank you all for yer replies Yes I know my GYN is an IDIOT, unfortunatly. When I go back to my endo I am gonna see if she can give me a referal for an ultasound. Although she felt I didnt I should have any problems with cysts since I was regular, I figure it is always better to be safe than sorry. I didnt even bother asking him since he was so INSISTANT that there was no way I had PCOS and my test levels were fine. He also told me since I was regular I was perfectly fine and there was no problems what so ever with my hormones. Such an idiot. I was like well then why cant I loose weight?? why do I have acne and facial hair and my hair is falling out??? This has been going on for 3-4 years and every doctor I have ever been to has chalked it up to stress, because I suffer from panic attacks and depression. Even when I told him the Met i was taking had lowered my levels, he just looked at me like I was crazy and said NO WAY you have it. So back to my endo and on the search for a new GYN. Thanks again for your replies and support.

Check out the link in my sig for more info about androgen levels. It's put out by the AACE, so it's a good source.

Just make sure that you get the ultra sound at the right time. My repro endo was shocked when he looked through my medical files. All the other 17 doctors were doing tests at the wrong time. Ultra sounds for PCOS need to be done on the 3 or 4th day of your cycle because it is the "calmest" time for all hormones.
