I have been going through many blood tests this past week, before my big appointment with an endo. One of the tests I had to take was the testosterone (sp?) test. My doctor called be a few days later and ask that I retest this one, the DHEA, and added progesteron and estrogen tests too. I asked why and the response was on average a womans testosterone level is below 77, and mine was at 150. The next question he asked was am I taking a medication that would alter this level in my body?!! Uhhh no, I told him for 5 or so years I have been telling them something is not right with me. I have been dieting faithfully since January 1st. Working out a bit, not as much as I should, but have cut my carb intake to minimal and have no sweets, pop etc., and my blood sugar was elevated, my cholestrol was worse than it was 6 months ago from 182 and now it is at 199. Something is terribly wrong. I feel so frusterated the sad thing is is that I am giving it 110% and am getting know where. Anyone else have these problems?

I had very similiar problems. I knew for years that something was not right. Doctors kept saying just lose the weight. Well the weight wouldn't go. I had undiagnosed PCOS. My main symptom is elevated Testosterone. My highest was 119. My body does best when I can keep it under 30. I have learned the hard way to keep copies of all my lab work.
Testosterone and other hormone tests should be done at the beginning of your cycle, if possible. Here is a link with PCOS Lab test info:

There is a lot of other great info on that site too. Losing weight shouldn't be so difficult. I take Metformin and two anti androgens to keep my PCOS Symptoms under control. Some of us need medication to get the testosterone levels down-Then we can stop the unexplained weight gains and concentrate on losing the weight. I hope that you find something that works for you.

Hi! I am a first time poster but been reading for about a yr now. My names Kelley and I was DX in 03 by a WONDERFUL Dr whom I LOVE. ( hes also a young hottie!) He was the FIRST DR to take me seriously about my problems and he is just my reg primary dr. I finally found a GYN that is awesome too. He is somewhat young too. I swear some of those old foggers are still in the stone ages!
This thread really caught my eye as I have a weigth problem and it is mostly in the tummy area. I basically look 9 month pregnant with twins. FUN STUFF! I was able to lose about 30 lbs but it took a yr. I have not been able to lose anthing since. I havent had a Testosterone test done is awhile and the last one I had it was in the 200 range. I have been on Met for about 4 yrs 1500 mg a day which have kept AF coming but not at a normal cycles. ( example 11/06 came on the 12. 12/06 came on the 19 and Jan is still MIA ) And they are manageable. I had HORRID (.) 's before the Met when they did come. I was using the BIGGEST ( bullet as my husband calls them ) and having to change every 30 min and sometimes would still have to change my clothes because it wouldnt last that long.
SO I guessi should get to my question sometime today.... Does the Testosterone levels make it more difficult to lose the weight? How often should you have the levels checked, its been about 2 yrs. I have been faithful in my diets and change them up a bit so I dont get into the same routine and I go to the gym at LEAST 3 times a week. More now that I have a workout buddy!
Ill start another thread with the rest of my life story

If your testosterone levels were at 200, you should probably be on an anti androgen. (unless you are trying to conceive right now)
My Endocrinologist tests my testosterone and liver every three months, for the last three years.
When we added another anti-androgen-Flutamide, seven months ago, my cycles became much better. I am now having normal 28-30 day cycles, without any problems.
Your doctor really needs to stay on top of that Testosterone level. I can tell when my levels are going up. That's why we added the Flutamide, my numbers were slowly creeping up over the last year, my cycles were longer, I developed acne, hair loss and weight gain. My body does best when we keep my Testosterone under 30. I also get copies of my labs and keep track of numbers.

I don't know if high testosterone level has to do with weight loss cos i am not overweight, but I know it is connected with sugar metabolism and most ppl that have high testosterone level are insulin resistant. My testosterone level was 175 last March and my RE immediately put me on Met, though my blood sugar was okay but he say Met is the only drug that can control it and another thing that can control it is ovarian drilling if you have cysts on ur ovaries. I had cysts so he said the fastest way to get me pregnant was ovarian drilling plus met. He was right after taking met for 4 months and 2 months after ovarian drilling I got my BFP, after the surgery my testosterone level was 45.
I wish you all luck, in what ever treatment options you choose.
