Default Tests for thyroid probs

Did anyone have a blood test done to check for thyroid probs, get told the tests came back normal only to go on and be tested again to be told yes they had hypothyroidism?

Also what symptoms did you have relating to this?

Thanks

Absolutely yes. You should always get a copy of your lab work, because their definition of "normal" is not always correct.

Here are the symptoms of hypothyroidism:

Thank you for the info...I certainly have many of the symptoms (if not almost all of them) mentioned on the link you provided. My test results were 'normal' according to the Doc's receptionist yet I am still convinced I have thyroid issues. Am going to push for a repeat test and actually have the Doc discuss results with me. Am sure the receptionists don't know what they are doing most of the time!

Thanks again. x

I've been wondering about this too. My GYN checked my prolactin and thyroid b/c I'm ttc. They said my thyroid was normal, but I have almost all of the symptoms of Hypothyroidism.

My best friend tried to conceive for 3 yrs. and had 3 doctors tell her that her thyroid was fine. She was convinced otherwise. She told the third doctor that she really believed it was a thyroid disorder and he ran extra tests. It was finally confirmed that she did have a thyroid problem. He put her on meds and a month later she was pregnant.

I'm going to have my doc re-check my thyroid. It would be too coincidental to have so many of the symptoms and not have it. At least that's what I think.

Wow, thanks Monty's girl. That is really interesting and proves that the Docs can defo get it wrong. I'm going to push my Docs to test further then as I'm certain I have thyroid issues. A great success story too to hear that your friend then managed to get pregnant after a proper diagnosis. I certainly have all the symptoms!!
