Default Are there ANY alternatives to Provera? HELP NEEDED NOW

I need one. Bad.

I am on my fourth day of Provera. Supposed to take it for ten days. I started feeling bad within a few hours of taking the first pill. I have taken Provera before and ended up so depressed by the end of the 10 days that I swore I would never take it again. But I need AF to show, so I started up again.

I feel like I am going crazy. A few minutes ago I was cutting an apple in the break room and I felt a nearly irresistable urge to slash my wrist with the knife. I put the knife down, went in the bathroom and cried for 1/2 an hour.

Is there anything else that will bring on AF? Anything? I am not taking any more Provera.

Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.

I'm sorry you're feeling so badly.

You can take Prometrium, which is real progesterone. Provera is synthetic progesterone. Ask your doctor.

Hope you feel better soon!

You girls are scaring me....I JUST got back from the DR no more that 10 minutes ago. I self diagnosed myself with PCOS, but I just now had it confirmed and he wrote me a Rx for Provera, and now after reading this I'm afraid to take it...I know all meds affect people differently, but how serious is this depression? Best of Luck to all of you....

If someone could tell me what I have to look forward to, it would be much appreciated rather than it all be a surprise....Thanx!

Steph, don't worry.

I took Provera and I was fine on it. A little grumpy maybe, but I'm always like that leading up to AF!

Designchick-You need to make a Dr. app ASAP and tell him how bad the SE are!!! LAst year I was really depressed and had a stress breakdown due to meds. You need to switch to something different. I think they can give you a shot or something to kick start your period. I have also heard of progesterone cream you rub on yourself. I take provera for only 5 days a month when needed and get AF-maybe it would work in less time? Please talk to someone when you feel suicidal. I've been there and it feels like life is spinning out of control .Hormines can make you feel crazy and not in control of your emotions. YOU ARE NOT ALONE AND IT"S THE PROVERA MAKING YOU FEEL THIS WAY!!!

Ask for aygestin, I have never tried prometrium, however I do know that on provera I was also a b#%$ on that stuff!! I also had very sore bbs, intense cramping, etc. On the aygestin, i took 10 mg two times a day for 5 days and had af 3 days later.
Don't be afraid to ask the doc.'
