Is there any treatment for post-menopausal women with PCOS? My mom (who's 61) feels very certain that she's had PCOS for many years, but it was never diagnosed. Obviously she's past the fertility issues, but is it worth seeking a diagnosis at this point? She has worked really hard on her weight (she's 5'2" and around 140), but still has that stubborn belly fat we all know so well, so I think she may have some degree of insulin resistance (she also gets skin tags). She's been trying the IR diet with me and feeling better.
She also has high blood pressure and high cholesterol, but those are being treated already.
If diagnosed with PCOS, the only thing I think the doctors could do differently for her is perhaps put her on Metformin.
Has there been any research on treating post-menopausal women with PCOS? Anyone with any experience on this?
