I need to know it...am i some kind of medical freak? so far everyone on this site is so different then me. Im 18. i am THIN, not average but thin, i have been this way forever. i have brown patches on my arms and legs and i suffer from excess hair, but not to the point where it is black and thick. i have it on my stomache my upper lip and my cheeks along with my neck. i have never really gotten a proper period. my skin and hair are oily as well.
is there anyone who is naturally thin with this syndrome? and has overcome it ? there is no point on putting this on the thin cysters forum as many of them are thin because they are dieting while my question is not directed in that way...my blood tests always reveal my inuslin to be normal yet my testosterone is super high even with spiro. its like i am really alone in this. no one seems to be like me. please enlighten me, i need to find a way to make this PCOS get better. i cannot deal with knowing that this whole treatment thing is just a chance in hell.
Just wanted to let you know you can be thin and have pcos, especially at your age. I was always skinny (5'6" and 49kg - sorry I don't do pounds!) all through my teens - could eat anything and not put on weight. It wasn't until my early 20s (which coincidentally? was when I went on the Pill) that I started to fill out a bit. I'm 30 now but I'm still in the healthy weight range for my height and always have been.
I know you read a lot of things that say PCOS girls are all overweight, but that's not the case at all. (The one that frustrates me is 'Just lose weight and your periods will get regular' - never made any difference to mine!)
If you aren't on the pill it can help with the hair growth and obviously sorts your periods out, although I know it doesn't agree with everyone.
If you have the irregular cycles I'd say you have PCOS, but it's worth getting checked out by a doctor anyway
Hope this helps

Me too! I am 39 and have been dealing with this all my life. My biggest concern is that I think my duaghter may have it too. I decided to treat myself the best way I can find and adjust as new treatments become available. I am still thin, suffer from acne when not medicated, have excess hair but controlled with treatment, and am oily, am not IR or diabetic. I never get a period without help and had infertility issues, (of course) and have two wonderful children. I look at it this way. Everyone has some kind of battle. At least through trial and error I can help alleviate my symptoms and improve my quality of life. I hope you can find a few tricks that work for you. Treatment should be individualistic and address your particular concerns and goals. This will change as you go through life. Sit down with your doctor to determine your best treatment.
Just a note here. Many women believe there is only one preferred course of treatment if one has PCOS. In my experience this is not true since everyone has a variation of this syndrome. I have tried most of what's out there and know that not every treatment works for every woman.

I'm also a naturally thin cyster--I do work out though. I'm 5'11" and weigh about 140. I'm 28 and have been off the pill since July (we're trying to start a family). My one normal cycle (aka, period didn't have to be induced with meds) was 37 days long.
You are not alone in this! Unfortunately there is no "cure". The treatment I'm on now is 1500 mg of Metformin a day. If we weren't trying to get preg, I would be on the pill (seemed to help control my acne and I've actually gained weight since I came off--I know most women are the opposite though)
I'm not sure how you ladies are doing with the period. As some said that they havn't got any.
What are the medicines that you are trying right now to make your hormones balanced? Coz i have tried metformine (it didnt worked) Avandia worked for 1 month, but later didn't
no i havn't tried those. Isn't yasmin a BCP and they're taken just to make you menstruate and not correct your hormones?
I think what you meant was PRovera...isn't that an HRT?
I did took Progesterone and Estsrogen (hormone replacement therapy) way back when i was first diagnosed with PCOS (prescribled by my first ob gyne)
But when i transfred to a new ob, i was recommended to an endo instead. I took met with only a very low dosage. I think the 1,000 mg per day only. It was avandamet (avandia + metformin(500mg) in one tablet) and met (500mg) per day which didn' work
i to an thin. it way sucks but you know like the other cyster said we all have our own battles. i was on bcp only for about 10 years and now on 1500mg of met and yasmin.
things are looking better for me now. it will get better you just have to get pushy with the docs.

wow how did i know this would end up in this forum. i am truly amazed. whenever a post mentions the word thin it gets sent here. why am i not suprised.
I am a little older than you... am 31, 5'8 1/5" and 142 lbs. I think that's not super thin but on the thin side of normal. I've never been heavier than 147 lbs (which was within the last 6 months). At 18 I was a whopping 135 lbs but I have better toned muscles than in high school so I am better off now.
I was diagnosed about 3 months ago. My FH-LSH ratio is 3:1 so very mild. I will be going for another evaluation in a month. I have been exercising regularily and eliminated high carb food from my diet: potatoes, rice, sugar, bread, etc.
Short term goal: pregnancy. Long term goal: avoid PCOS related illness like obesity, heart problem, diabetes, etc.
You are not alone!

fawn yes they are working for me. Although i do not feel 100% i feel much better than i did. i have high testosterone and i am IR. I work out at least 3 time a week. I always have. But over the past year i gained 12lb. i went to my doc with my list of complaints. my skin hurt, headaches on a dailey basis, and just an overall feeling of suckyness. He put me on met and yasmin in dec. and i have lost the 12lb. i am very carefull with what i eat. i am borderline diabetic. like he said if i kept going i would be diabetic with in 1 year. It totally scared me. I had gd will pg and preterm labor. i say she was a large baby as i am only 5' and 115 when i got pg. All other say she was a normal size. yeah well they did not push her out. she was almost 8 lb. by the way i was at 155lb when i gave birth. YIKES> He dxed me at 19 and put me on bcp. at the time i was like ok what ever dude. but as i have gotten older things got worse.
since i have been on the met my sugars have evened out and i am more prone to sugar lows. My last tranvag sono showed cysts on my left ovary and a large cyst on my right. my facial hair is much better and i do not have new skin tags. My acne is pretty much gone. So i am all over the met. When we decide to ttc again i will remain on the met until 14 weeks of pg. Well the endo said that, my gyn said the entire pg. so who knows. You should try it if you feel like it will help. sorry for the book.

Although I haven't been officially diagnosed with PCOS yet, I have 99% of the symptoms (that would be all of them except overweight) That's why its been so hard to get a diagnosis I think.

I have never seen a thin woman that I KNOW has pcos...until about 4 days ago, when my assistant mgr. at work had to go home because she was so upset!! What happened is she has been hinting (at least to me, because I've seen it before) she is quite depressed, sad, or at the very least upset about something personal...Anyway, I came into work and heard from the mgr. she has been feeling ill, and weepy and had to go home. I said I hope she will be Ok, and she said well, she has some sort of Poly Ovary thing, and I was like, are you serious? So, when I see her again, I will tell her about this site and if she has the Net, hopefully, she will come by to see what help she can get......
