Default Is there anyone out there for whom met is not working?

Hi all,

I have been on met for 4 months and was on clomid and injectibles. Nothing worked and so I am taking 2 months off to save money. This is CD 18 for me and no O. Clearly met is not working for me without the clomid or injectibles. Anyone out there with a similar problem? Is there anything else I can do to make myself O naturally? I am a normal weight and bmi.

Thanks.

I do not think I am responding to Met either. I have been on it for about 6 months. I have tried with and without Clomid...no luck. I am on CD 20 with no O. Don't have much advice for you, just wanted you to know you are not alone. Don't give up!

You know they found out that regulation of cycle was a side effect of metformin and so they prescribe it to a lot of pcos people...even if they aren't insulin resistant. i have been on it 3 months and I have gained weight on it, it makes me starving right after eating and it makes me fatigued. I was on 1500...I lowered my dose to 750mg and I have more energy. It hasn't worked at all for me. I am overweight but not IR and have normal blood sugars.

It seems like the other rx is Femara..seems like several that have not responded to clomid have responded to that. And Soy isoflavones has worked for some people as well. I took it last month and my CBEFM said I o'd for the first time. Good luck!

I talked to my Dr. after being on the Met for about 3 months. She told me that for some women it takes about 6 months for you to see the full effects. I have been on Met for almost exactly 6 months now.

I have been having a difficult time losing weight. I also had some issues with acne and was not ovulating on my own. My skin cleared up withing about 3 months. I have lost 10 pounds in the past month without really changing what I've been doing. I don't believe I've O'd on my own still, but I have had success with Clomid the past 2 cycles.

I've been on Met for over 2 years now and it never did regulate my periods. Sometimes clomid works for me and sometimes it doesn't.

I had been on met for 6 months and still was not seeing any difference in my cycle length. I went 8 months without af and couldn't get anything to help. I did get pg but I am sure it wasn't the met. I think it was one of my random Os that I have during the year.

I have been on it for years, though I am half assed about taking it now.

When I first went on it - 1500mg, later 2000mg - name brand - I lost 20 pounds and my periods were regular. Then about a year later the generic came out and I switched to that and everything went screwy again.

I have NO idea if it was just that it stopped working or that the generic is not as good. I am not anti-generics by any means. I buy store brand benedryl, motrin, sudafed, etc and they are all fine. But when I made the switch, the met stopped working.

I couldn't get my doc to up my dose. Then we moved and my new doc agreed and after a few months at 2500 I got pregnant with my son.

Then we moved and I couldn't get my dose at 2500 again, the doc would only do 2000. So I just took more than I should and figured I'd find a way to deal when I ran off... this was a few year after having my son, he was just turned 2. A few months after going up to 2500, I got pregnant again (miscarried though)

Granted I was also exercising and eating well during these times so who knows.

I do know the generic has not worked as well for me.

I also know 2500 seems to work better but it's really hard to find a doc to prescribe this dose. I don't know why. They will say "Studies show there is no significant benefit to 2500 over 2000." Well I dunno, if it works for me, that seems like a significant benefit... but the older I get the more humbled I am to realize that wearing a white coat does not make you safe from being a moron.

Now I am half assed about taking it so who knows. I know it's not the miracle in a pill many hoped for and at least 2 doctors I have talked to recently say they really have not seem amazing results in their patients on met alone.

But I gotta wonder, these are the guys who won't go up to 2500, and I really wonder about the generic thing...

I've been on Met for 6 months and I'm not sure how much it has actually worked. I think Met has helped normalize my weight (for me that means around 280) but has not helped me O. I am hoping to induce O with Licorice/Peony this month and if that doesn't work, I'll try Clomid.

Met 2000mg isn't working for me either, haven't O'd in years. And my doctor now wants to add clomid 50 mg to see if that helps. Met (luckily) hasn't given me any side effects of weight loss or gain, which is good for me since I'm fairly healthy right now. Just thought I'd add my story!

Started Met. 2000 mg in October with no O and no AF. I will be adding Clomid 50 mg after the Provera to induce AF. Hoping 1st time's the charm!
