I stumbled upon this website after a friend mentioned pcos to me. I have been having many of the symptoms associated with this. The doctor which is a new doc for me was hesitant about pcos mainly because she said I do not fit the physical characteristics of pcos. I have to say that by the time I got to this appt. I was emotionally a mess. I have been dealing with irregular periods all my adult life, and the pain, and the hair, and well I'm sure you all have heard this a million times. I was diagnosed with endometriosis and an enlarged ovary, had a laporoscopy, that was back in 2000 those symptoms have faded and the others have worsened especially the hair. So obviously she could tell I was a mess and suggested anti depressants. I told her about my family history of diabetes. I also asked about metformin and she suggested I take birth control pills. I guess she is willing to entertain the idea that I might have it so she is sending me for the following tests, cbc, tsh, prolactin, and fasting glucose. I also have an ultrasound scheduled at the end of the month. I guess my question here is am I on the right track?? Any suggestions or comments would be great.

The link Allison gave you is good! Also the ultrasound is good practice too, let us know if you have any questions about it, lots of us here have had one (or more than one!)
I will tell you that met was a lifesaver for me, if you do have PCOS, it may really help you. So I think it's good that you brought it up to the doc. I took BCP also for awhile, the BCP helped but I believe the met helped more. (On BCP I'd have one period per month but it was still really heavy. When I started met, the one period per month became more of a "normal" flow). Before long, I went off BCP and just took the met, and that worked fine for me. Just thought I'd tell you my experience in case it helps..
I take an anti-depressant too (prozac). Depression is common is ladies w/ PCOS. Hope you feel better very soon.
We're here for you
Hugs
