Trust me, you are not alone. I am going through the same things with my endocrinologist as you are with your doctor. And, if I did everything he said, I would be on at least 6 different prescription medications, each one treating only symptoms--spironolactone, sleep aids, antidepressants, etc.

I agree with Brandy in that supplements/vitamins can help. My naturopath was the first to look into vitamin/mineral deficiencies. And, turns out, my results were low on several tests, including the one for magnesium. That didn't mean much to me, until she told me that anxiety can be related to magnesium deficiencies. I've now been taking a calcium/magnesium supplement twice a day, and I have certainly noticed a difference.

I also wanted to suggest that you take a look at a book I found that made me have a bit of an "aha!" moment-- "It's my Ovaries, Stupid" by Dr. Elizabeth Vliet. It is truly a wealth of knowledge on the subject of hormone dysfunction. It goes into great detail about the role of each of the reproductive hormones, talks a lot about PCOS and includes some great "case studies" the author has come across in her practice. I really think you would enjoy it, if you can just get past its truly pathetic cover design.

Good luck!

Thanks to both of you for your support.

That's what I hate the most about PCOS. "You're on your own." Doctors are befuddled by it and often dismiss you if you refuse to take BCPs.

I would say that I'd just have my entire reproductive system removed, but that wouldn't stop the hormonal imbalance that is PCOS.

I just so hope I do not have PCOS. :'(

I get my US results tomorrow or Tuesday, I will update you with the results.

Take care...

DX: Officially by a Reproductive Endocrinologist in March 2008.Still trying to rule out Late-Onset Adrenal Hyperplasia.
RX: Refusing hormonal treatments as they only worsen my condition, even natural remedies.

Im 115-120 lbs 5'6-7 and other then messed periods at first I just had cystic acne and oily skin. Now Im even getting my period every 30-40 days. Still got the acne though. And Im super bloated so that I always look 3 months prego I used to think I had excess hair but I really dont, it was kinda all in my head I think. Im kinda dark so I had fine upper lip hair but I realized pretty fast that most women have that! On the bright side at least if you have pcos you have some kind of answer. Now that Ive had a bazillion tests done I realize that something is almost always slightly out of whack but the next month it is usually normal so hormones just fluctuate. Good luck tho!
