I was diagnosed with this while trying to concieve in october 2001.I understand what it is I'm just confused on a couple things if anyone knows fill me in please.
(1) My Dr told me the only harmone of mine that registered unnormal was a really high LH level which is always around 21. I know a high LH represents pcos, but why would the other harmones be normal?
(2) I also have very regular periods and normal sugar levels.
Does anyone else just have high LH and if so why would that be? Will I eventually get the other symptoms or could I have something else going on that just messes with LH levels. This disease has me so confused.
Thanks a lot.
Angela
There are no cut and dried answers, that's why it's called a syndrome. My symptoms sound similar to yours. I had regular, although long, cycles until my 30's. They slowly got longer and then were no longer regular. My only symptoms were very high LH (30 with a LH:FSH ratio of 6:1) and somewhat elevated testosterone. I've always been thin and didn't have any sugar problems, although a lower carb diet has helped me feel tons better generally and my overall health, it did not seem to affect my cycles. The thing that helped me was taking vitex (herb with common name of chaste tree berry). It cut my LH in half, I started cycling again, and I was able to conceive. (It also lower my testosterone to normal which I think was a side affect of lowering my LH and cycling again.) As for your symptoms getting worse, it's hard to say. How old are you? Have you been on BCP's?
Did they do an ultrasound? Did you have cysts in your ovaries? Any other symptoms of pcos?

How long until vitex was effective? How much did you take?
Thanks,

I do have the cysts. They have done ultrasounds since I'm currently TTC. I have had cycles where I could not take the ovulation meds cause too many cysts. I will go in on may 3rd for ovary drilling so that should help. I'm 27 years old though and would never of known I even had pcos if not for TTC.

Oana,
I took what the bottle recommended. I hadn't AF'd in several months and got an AF 30 days after starting it. My cycles were regular at 30~35 days (which is the shortest they've been on their own) and I conceived the 3rd cycle using it. I was also charting which was extremely helpful in making sure we tried on the right days. It probably would've taken longer without charting.
