it was my dermotologist who suggested that i should see my doc and check it out...I had awful skin acne since I was eleven. I have the scars to prove it...other than the acne, irregular periods and no ovulation that's all I got from pcos. I am classified as a "thin" pcos patient....no excessive hair growth...depression too....but lately thats been coinciding with trying to conceive!

I am also a thin PCOSer (115 lbs, 5'2"). I have no real cycles (on my own, I average 1-2periods a year), no ovulation on my own, mild acne, string-of-pearls cysts on one of my ovaries, and a few chin hairs. I think my symptoms are pretty manageable, except that I am very prone to depression and that tends to make everything seem somewhat impossible to handle.

The depression seems to be something that nearly everyone on this thread has mentioned. I wonder if it's more common in thin cysters? I think our type of PCOS is so much more of a challenge for doctors to understand and treat since we can't be cured with weight loss, and metformin doesn't seem to be a magic pill for all of us.

Anyway, what do all of you do to handle the depression? Is anyone treating it or are we all just trying to get by without addressing it?

Once I got off the pill, I noticed acne on face and back (which is totally under control thanks to my dermatologist) and increased hair growth in all the places I don't want it. No probs with skin tags, hair loss, etc. My hormones are out of whack and I haven't gotten a period in over 4 months! I have a history of anxiety and mild depression, but don't think its related to PCOS as it seems to run in my family (on my mom's side).

This is all so crazy to me because I'm 35 and never thought I had a problem. I guess it was all those years on birth control, which "masked" the symptoms.

I am 5'10'' 150 weight (thin by most standards) and everytime I go to a new doctor they look at me funny when I say I have PCOS, that is until they look at my bloodwork. Only known symptoms are lack of period (I never get it) and cysts on ovaries. I have also had two children one by using Metformin and had NO period before I got prego with either of them. Doctors still look at me funny when I tell them that. Not sure why :-)

Well i'm new here and i have very irregular cycles---which come like 1-2x a year! Plus i have gone from perfectly clear skin as a teen to now acne on my back and cheeks. And these acne leave bad scarring / marks. I have an excellent skin care routine and that's all that i can do to reduce them. Recently, i've also noticed bad mood swings, i'll be good one minute, then BAM! Something gets me angry and i trip... :/ Oh yeah, i almost forgot, that darn bloated lower belly that persits through constant exercise and dieting...

Exercise and healthy eating are the only things close to helping right now.

ETA: Weight gain also, I'm 5'2 and used to weigh 110 - 111LBS Now i weigh 130 :/

I am too am slim and 120 pounds and just under 5 foot six.

However I get alot the symptoms, irregular periods, acne and hair loss. Not really excess hair though strangely.

I came off Yasmin three months ago and for the last three months I have been on a low GL diet which has meant that I have increased proteins, reduced carbs overall and cut out refined carbs. I eat complex carbs in smaller portions, combine complex carbs with protein and have three meals a day plus heathly snacks. I saw a nutritionist who recommended this diet.

Amazingly the low GL diet has worked, my periods have been bang on time for three months. I am amazed by this as this hasn't ever happened to me since I first got my period at 13 and I am now 31! My acne has also been much better. However my hair loss is persistant though and falling out very quickly. Does anyone know of any supplements/foods/exercise etc may help with the hair loss? I take a multivitamin, zinc, chomium and saw palmetto daily.

I am 5'0. I have the kangaroo pouch of an extra 30 lbs. I have no AF, instead I have monthly Cysts. I am IR which is often mistaken for low blood sugar. Thinning hair, Check. I was finally DX'd PCOS in 07 in Atlanta, Now I am in Dallas, and I cannot find a Dr who believes in PCOS. Why is this so hard?

I can relate to u very much melissa because i try to take care of my diet also. I have also gotten off yasmin 3 months ago and got a period every 5 weeks bang on time..yet the mystery is..are we ovulating? i have no idea..do u think u are? i always had cysts on my ovaries so i always assumed i dont ovulate, yet periods are regular!!

My PCO symptoms are horrible acne that I've had since I was a teenager unless I'm either pregnant or on the pill. I'm annovulatory and don't get af unless induced mostly. My hair is really thin but I don't know that its "thinning", I think it may just be thin hair! I get random chin hairs but nothing I can't handle. I do have a lot of moodiness and anxiety. Wow, I sound like quite the mess, thanks PCOS!

On a side note: I'd love to hear what those of you who said your acne is now under control are doing. I've done proactiv, prescriptions from my derm, you name it and nothing helps. I eat really poorly though so I bet thats my problem

Default I have most of the classic symptoms

I'm actually slightly underweight but have most of the otherwise classic PCOS symptoms -- serious facial hair issues, I never got my period regularly (I do now on Yasmin), insulin resistance, have FSH:LH imbalance, cysts on my ovaries and I had pretty bad acne as a teenager (cleared right up on spironolactone). I guess we're all different!

I have mild acne (just 2-3 zits at a time, sometimes none), irregualr periods, Polycystic ovaries, high cholesterol, no hair issues, although I have so much hair on my head and it sheds alot that maybe i have thinning issues, but since I have so much I don't notice? Not sure.

Met has worked for me.

Hi Aud for depression, i find that nothing works as good as exercise! But it's getting the motivation to exercise is the problem...

I agree with 1angelic about the exercise for helping depression, but I too have a lot of trouble getting motivated. I also see a therapist to deal with family issues and some anxiety and that has worked wonders.

I'm all about the meds. I've thought I was doing great several times and tried stopping them. My anxiety and depression always go through the roof, though.
